Rainy day dream

"I’ve been enamored by wind chimes for quite some time. There’s something about the contrast between the percussive strike of the clapper and the ringing vibrations of chimes I find very centering and calming. Sometimes I visualize the sound emanating from the chimes like ripples on a calm lake.
Collaborating with Meghan Fohl’s original field recording of wind chimes I composed a set of generative rules and probabilities for new scales, harmonies and rhythms within Wotja. Then I created a variety of synth sounds to enhance the chimes and added effects and field recordings of rain and thunder to create a dreamlike environment. I set the process in motion tweaking the rules as the sounds evolved to shape the piece you are listening to now.
Unlike most of my music where I seek to create new, previously unexperienced worlds, in this piece I wanted to evoke the sensation of drifting off to sleep while listening to wind chimes during a rain storm. Who doesn’t love floating off to sleep with the sounds of chimes and a distant thunderstorm as soundtrack?
This is an excerpt from an infinitely evolving generative piece."
