The Ninth Gate, Euro puddings, the devil’s business; and the pleasures of story structure
Episode 10, Sep 04, 2023, 03:00 AM
Johnny Depp goes full gumshoe in the hunt for a devil-rousing book in this saucy Euro-pudding.
The Ninth Gate (1999), directed by Roman Polanski, is described as a horror-thriller (despite not being scary nor exciting). It has three spooky tomes though and a great game of spot the difference. Depp stars as the laconic book detective embroiled in the satanic silliness, with Emmanuelle Seigner as the femme fatale.
Joe & Adam discuss the film, story structure and the great soundtrack… and as an end of episode treat, some other films they've seen recently, including Oppenheimer and Memento.
