The minister of finance, Bak Barnaba Chol has asked the legislators to suspend a proposal to increase civil servants’ salaries by 600 percent and instead approve a 400 percent increment that was previously asserted.
This came up during the extra ordinary session of the national legislature to discuss the draft 2023-2024 national budget.
Radio Miraya’s Philip Wani reports that Minister Bak has asked the MPs to give him five months to come up with a supplementary budget to cater for the 600 percent increase.
The draft budget stands at over two trillion South Sudanese pounds and prioritizes economic recovery and peace consolidation.
