A Woman Beat Her 78-year-old Mother with 'A can of unopened pasta sauce’ Faces Homicide charges After the Victim Dies

In a tragic incident in Maple Grove, Minnesota, a daughter is accused of attacking her mother during a heated dispute over unpaid rent. According to the Maple Grove Police Department, Nicole Mari Wobbeking, 49, was arrested on July 29 for misdemeanor domestic assault in the fifth degree. However, the charges were later upgraded to assault in the third degree when investigators discovered that the victim, Sheila May Wobbeking, 78, had suffered a broken bone during the altercation.
Initially released after the first arrest, Nicole has been in custody at Hennepin County Jail since the second arrest. Unfortunately, the elder Wobbeking, Sheila, passed away at her home in Plymouth on July 5. Law enforcement in Plymouth alerted authorities in Maple Grove, and detectives are now requesting homicide charges.
The incident occurred on June 27 when Sheila went to her daughter's residence, which she owned and where Nicole was also a tenant, to address the issue of unpaid rent and complaints from nearby individuals. According to the criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, Nicole became agitated, and a heated confrontation ensued. She allegedly slapped her mother and then violently pushed her down several stairs. To the horror of the investigators, it is reported that Nicole used a jar of unopened pasta sauce to inflict further harm on her mother's ribs and hips.
Despite her injuries, Sheila managed to leave the house with her granddaughter and wait for the arrival of the police. She was taken to a hospital in Maple Grove, where it was discovered that she had suffered a broken ankle in the incident. Tragically, Sheila's condition deteriorated, and she passed away days later.
In the aftermath, Nicole stated that her mother was her landlord and entered the residence without permission, admitting to pushing the stairs down. Now, homicide charges are being pursued. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office has determined that Sheila's death resulted from a pulmonary embolism triggered by the broken ankle sustained in the attack.
As the investigation continues, Maple Grove Police Commander Jon Wetternach said that a decision on the homicide charge is currently pending.
