Bob’s Box, a Box of Useful Resources for Blind and Partially Sighted People While in Hospital

Season 2, Episode 62,   Jul 20, 2023, 02:00 PM

Becky Wych, a Nurse from the South West, has recently set up the pilot of Bob’s Box at the Royal United Hospital in Bath to make the hospital experience a bit more friendly and less scary for blind and partially sighted people who might be in hospital on their own.

The idea for Bob’s Box came from the hospital experience that Becky’s late visually impaired Farther Bob had on his own during the Covid pandemic.

Becky felt that on Bob’s ward there were not that many resources for visually impaired patients like Bob and thus the idea for Bob’s Box was born. Bob’s Box is a box of handy useful resources and equipment to help and support other visually impaired people when they are in hospital.

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey recently caught up with Becky to find out more about Bob’s Box and firstly asked becky to paint a picture about Bob, what sort of person he was, his character and outlook on life.

Then Toby and Becky chatted about the set up of Bob’s Box and what could be done to role out Bob’s Box at other Hospitals across the NHS.
