Louisa Wickham, First National Clinical Director for Eye Care - First Year in Post

Season 2, Episode 44,   Jul 07, 2023, 02:00 PM

Louisa Wickham, consultant ophthalmologist and medical director at Moorfields Eye Hospital, was appointed in August 2022 by NHS England as the first ever national clinical director for eye care.

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey recently caught up with Louisa Wickham to find out how her first year in post as the National Clinical Director for Eye Care for NHS England has gone so far.

Louisa began by giving Toby an outline of how the National Clinical Director for Eye Care role came about, how the role will help to foster collaborations within eye care with the hope to be able to transform the eye care pathway for patients in the future.

Louisa and Toby then talked about how the role of National Clinical Director for Eye Care might help to raise the status and profile of eye care, help to foster more collaboration across the eye care sector and the potential in the near future of the monitoring of eye care at home for some patients.

Toby ended by asking Louisa with maybe the pressure and demands on her of being the first National Clinical Director for Eye Care and being the Medical Director of Moorfields Eye Hospital what Louisa might do to unwind and relax at the end of the day.
