DAME'S CERTIFIED, BEAL & PORZINGIS MOVING & USA BASKETBALL GOING DOWNHILL
Episode 15, Jul 03, 2023, 01:30 PM
NBA offseason is here. In this episode, I cover the latest hot topics including the media pressuring Damian Lillard for no reason and the Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis trades. I also discuss why USA basketball is at risk of no longer being the best in the world.
Welcome back to Sports & The Real Sh*t. While the NBA season may be over, there's never a lack of topics to cover with offseason transactions getting kicked off. In this episode, I give my thoughts on the hot topics of the last couple of weeks since the NBA finals ended. I also go into detail about why I believe basketball in the USA is at risk of losing its place as the best in the world.
So, while the NBA will continue to be the best league, the way we currently develop players in the US is eventually going to lead to other countries putting out the best players. For example, the top 3 players in the league today are not products of the AAU experience. With that in mind, I make the case that our current youth basketball structure is broken and is starting to resemble American youth soccer and the English Premier League...and not in a good way. If we want to continue to have the best league with the best homegrown talent, we have to change the entire process to ensure we attract and develop the best players.
2:10 - Damian Lillard's position as a top 3 point guard in the NBA during his career is solidified, so why does he need to ask for a trade?
14:25 - Bradley Beal going to the Phoenix Suns doesn't really move me
19:10 - Why Kristaps Porzingis doesn't get the Celtics over the hump
23:34 - Can Chris Paul and Draymond Green play together?
27:16 - AAU is hurting our players and why the NBA should look into the European model to make sure we bring in and develop the best homegrown American players.
