How long will mortgage rates stay high?

As the Fed tinkers with the economy, mortgage rates fluctuate. But never in history have we seen rates double in such a short period of time as we have the past year. So will they be coming back down any time soon? It's easy to give opinions, but what does the data say? It's time to look at the historical data for 30 year fixed rate mortgages to see what's happened in the past, and then perhaps we can come up with some ideas as to what might happen in the future.
