Food Insecurity and Mitigating the Drought Crisis. WFP

The latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), released in April this year indicated that about two-thirds of the South Sudanese population or 7.76 million people are likely to face acute food insecurity during the April-July 2023 lean season. The decline in food security and high prevalence of malnutrition is linked to a combination of conflict, poor macroeconomic conditions, extreme climate events in including drought. The World Food Program has been making efforts to mitigate the drought crisis it’s program for Food Assistance and Dyke Projects. More with the WFP’s Programme Policy officer, Ester Foni and Richard Gwonza an engineer with WFP.
