Charlene Kerr-Spencer on Volunteering with the RNIB

Season 1, Episode 1738,   Jun 06, 2023, 08:00 AM

For this year’s Volunteer’s Week (1 - 7 June 2023) here on RNIB Connect Radio we thought it would be a good time to celebrate, recognise and thank all those amazing people who contribute their time to volunteer with the RNIB and help to make a more inclusive world for blind and partially sighted people.

One such person who has given up quite a lot of her time as a Volunteer with the RNIB is Charlene Kerr-Spencer.

Charlene began volunteering with the RNIB around the time when she started to lose her sight and had to end her career as a Nurse, a job that she loved.

Charlene first role as a volunteer with the RNIB was helping out with the RNIB’s Living Well With Sight Loss courses and it was not long until Charlene took over the running of the course.

Very quickly after starting to run the courses Charlene joined the RNIB as an employee firstly as a Volunteer Manager and has not looked back since.

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey caught up with Charlene to find out more about what made her want to start volunteering with the RNIB, how she has been able to channel all her caring Nursing skills into the role of a volunteer, helping other blind and partially sighted people and into her new career here at the RNIB too.

If you are interested in finding out more about Volunteering opportunities here at the RNIB and becoming a Volunteer like Charlene  you can find out more by either calling the RNIB Helpline on 0303 123 9999 and ask  to speak to the Volunteer Team or you can visit  the Volunteer pages of the RNIB website  — https://www.rnib.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer/
