What happens when the Fed becomes partisan?

The Federal Reserve is the last ultra-powerful part of the US government that hasn't become subject to Republican or Democrat partisanship. But with how much impact the Fed has on the economy - and specifically on real estate - it seems obvious that politicians will imminently turn the Fed into a partisan institution, much like what has happened with the Supreme Court in recent decades. This could happen as soon as the next Presidential election, and when it does, it is likely to have profound impacts on the real estate market.
