SCOTTIE PIPPEN - BEING GREAT WITH NO CREDIT
Episode 11, May 29, 2023, 05:02 PM
Scottie Pippen is one of the greatest NBA players ever. There are many lessons we can learn in order to succeed even if we don't always get the praise.
Scottie Pippen is one of the greatest players to ever step on an NBA floor. The original point forward. But for some reason, most NBA fans only remember him as a sidekick to Michael Jordan. Jordan made Scottie these fans say. And although he led the Chicago Bulls to 55 wins in 1994, finished 3rd in MVP voting, and won the NBA All-Star Game MVP, the part that sticks out about the season for most fans is the fact that he wouldn't enter the last seconds of a playoff game because Phil Jackson drew up the game-winning shot for Toni Kukoc instead of him.
Recently, Scottie has made the news because of his statements about Jordan. Not only has he said that Lebron James is the most all-around player the NBA has ever seen, but he's made it a point to say that Michael Jordan wasn't as great because he wasn't a great team player. So, instead of being the greatest #2 to ever play with the greatest #1, he's coming across as a totally different person - someone who's not truly happy with how his legacy is being viewed.
The truth is Scottie's reaction is no different than how many of us would react. If we put in the work and we're great at it, we expect awards, praise, and recognition, and when we don't get it, we're ready to let people know about it. Who doesn't want everyone to know how great they are?
In this episode, I discuss the greatness of Scottie Pippen, why he deserves way more credit for the Bulls' success during those dynasty years than he got, and what the rest of us can learn from him so that we can be great even when we don't always get the credit we deserve.
