Today is the 40th anniversary of the start of the liberation struggle that led to the independence of South Sudan and its separation from Sudan.
Commonly known as May 16th, the day marks the formation of SPLA/SPLM in 1983, when the first bullets were fired in Jonglei State, starting the fight for liberation.
The Army spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai Koang says that this year no official celebrations are planned with individuals and non-official group celebrations across the country. He spoke about the history and the background of this great day.
