Conflict is now forgotten

"Our piece is inspired by a recording of the Lake Kivu Fish Market in Rwanda. We incorporated sound recordings from Crossbones Memorial Garden in London and intertwined a piano melody and additional guitar strings and bells. Crossbones commemorates and honours the outcasts of society and the birdsong from the garden presents an evocative reminder of the souls buried in the unconsecrated ground there. The sound of an airplane soaring into the sky breaks the peace. Rwanda has a history of conflict and pain and merging sounds from both sites brings together a shared history. The voices of the Rwandan folk going about their everyday business create a powerful backdrop to the soundscape. The melancholy piano drives the piece forwards, suggesting that conflict must now be forgotten."
