In a neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, a serious error occurred when Dr. John Gibbs and Dr. David Harkness left a sick infant, Baby G, alone behind a screen with her monitor turned off. It was Lucy Letby, a neonatal nurse currently on trial, who discovered the unresponsive infant and initiated emergency treatment. The doctors' grave oversight came to light during Letby's trial, as the designated nurse recalled both Dr. Gibbs and Dr. Harkness apologizing for switching off the monitor and forgetting to turn it back on.
