Charity Chief Exec’s Weekly Update 25/03/23
Season 1, Episode 1644, Mar 25, 2023, 10:00 AM
Each week we chat with RNIB’s CEO Matt Stringer to discuss the big news affecting the charity.
Matt began by talking about the data released this week from the Association of Optometrists (AOP) and the Macular Society suggesting that hundreds of patients are facing avoidable or irreversible sight loss through not being able to access NHS appointments.
Then to news that top book publishing group DK have announced this week that they are donating hundreds of titles to RNIB’s library, giving another boost to our Reading Services.
With RNIB’s Tricia Sail on BBC TV in the Race Across the World series and a blind student from Chichester winning £45,000 on Michael McIntyre’s game show The Wheel last Saturday, with more and more blind and partially sighted people on TV and in other media normalising blindness and sight loss to the general public. Plus news that King Charles III’s Coronation will be available via the BBC red button with audio description.
Finally Matt gave an update on life in the new RNIB HQ the Grimaldi Building as staff started working there this week.
