Season 1, Episode 1580, Feb 14, 2023, 09:00 AM
We all know that February is the shortest month of the year but did you know that February is also Heart awareness month too and as well as 14 February being Valentine’s Day it is also Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day which marks the end of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Awareness week.
RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey was joined by Rob Nicoll who has congenital heart disease and is also one of the Trustees of The Somerville Heart Foundation, a patient organisation group set up 30 years ago to support people with CHD and their families.
Rob began by telling Toby what congenital heart disease actually is and what it is like living with CHD on a day to day basis which in many ways is a hidden condition.
Rob then gave a bit of history to the set up of The Somerville Heart Foundation which is named after Professor Jane Somerville a pioneering professor of Cardiology. To then outlining some of the work that the foundation does in supporting patients with CHD plus a bit about Professor Jane Somerville’s and her pioneering work into understanding and treating congenital heart disease.
