00:04.65 tduval18 I Definitely hit that way too soon like I look and I was like yeah I was just like wait wait wait wait I hit this way too quickly and we just got way too excited about it. Um, so guys welcome back to another episode of side note.
00:07.16 Ashley You know what I used to it coming on twice sometimes so I was in it.
00:21.71 tduval18 We have a very special guest with us today. So this will be the first time we're interviewing someone as well. So welcome Pat Rennie he's a Baltimore bass artist who has been following his music dream since at least middle school when we met him and welcome Pat.
00:37.60 Pat Ah, thank you I love that introduction you know? Yeah, it's come a long time. Yeah, like I think yeah like since you mentioned middle school like people did not know that I did music up until our eighth grade dance I don't know if you remember that you know like that was it was the low crime. Oh time.
00:49.19 tduval18 Oh we remember eighth grade dances. It's.
00:54.94 Pat Oh my god yeah I just remember um yeah like they were like Patrick sings I was like ah I was so shy back then I was so shy back that oh my god no no, it's totally different now. But like you know when you're 14 I like ah get away from me.
00:56.84 Ashley Um, green.
01:00.74 Ashley You were like do I sing check this out.
01:11.81 Pat No, no yeah, no.
01:11.85 Ashley Um, yeah I'm still like that. Um.
01:12.82 tduval18 So I was gonna say Ashley's still that way I guess my first thing would be is and not to put you on the spot for it. But do you remember your first time meeting me or Ashley or both of us and like what your impressions were of us.
01:27.00 Pat Um, I do actually well um I remember. Okay so I remember more of um, Tyler just because um, you know we were um I remember we were in band class together in the sixth grade I remember that um Ashley not so much only like um I do remember like Ashley just being like. Think's because but like we were in different classes like it was like so weird back in the Summer's days like you know it was just like you had a certain um homeroom class and you stick with that homer class. You know, do you remember that so you didn't.
01:54.89 Ashley Um, yeah, it was just like 1 and then you might have done a switch but it was pretty much just like these were your people because what was it. It was a team and b team or some and um and yeah it was just like those were your people.
01:55.54 tduval18 Um, yeah.
02:01.61 tduval18 Me team. Yup, yeah.
02:02.92 Pat Yeah yep, yep, exactly. Exactly.
02:09.72 tduval18 Which is kind of weird when you think about it that they like a school like I don't like they segregate you to be with just this certain group and.
02:15.69 Ashley Can I be real I think there was like the smart people and the not smart people and I think y'all were on the smart side and I was not on the smart side.
02:21.34 tduval18 So you you? yeah yep, actually you were the smart group you were the smart group.
02:23.80 Pat yep yep I approve then now no, we were on the a side Ashley I remember that we were on the a side and they put the the smarter ones on the b side I remember that.
02:34.93 Ashley Not no, no, that is not true because I was thousand you should see my grades.
02:37.71 Pat What.
02:40.33 tduval18 I Did we've in friends I did.
02:43.75 Pat Oh my God Well taking a back taking the back I I think I got to grab the yearbook after this shit.
02:48.61 Ashley Oh god.
02:50.88 tduval18 Um, ah we every time Ashley comes and we get drunk and look at our middle school and high school yearbooks and just reminisce on all of those things haves gonna say sometimes sometimes we I think we've talked about it before that like.
03:00.44 Pat They're great memories I mean well for the most part for the most part.
03:07.25 tduval18 I Would go back to elementary school and high school but I would never want to go back to middle school I feel like middle school is like such a tough transition.
03:10.70 Ashley And or.
03:12.55 Pat Ah, now. Yeah yeah I take that back up to the kenwood years. Yeah, definitely the kenwood years but stumers No no, no, no like oh my gosh like just thinking about that. Oh my gosh.
03:23.96 Ashley And yeah I do remember you more in high school specifically I remember your hair because you had like a red streak in it and it would like it was like your flippy your fully hair with your red in it I remember that.
03:34.61 Pat Oh my God No ah.
03:39.15 tduval18 The two thousand s emo hair.
03:41.47 Pat I Yeah yeah, the thing back in the day that being back in the day. Well um, you know I was I was your typical poppunk band member back in the day. So I mean like that was the thing. So oh my God yes.
03:43.21 Ashley Yes, but.
03:52.46 Ashley I remember you were in a band with Tom because I would hang out with with Tom from way back when and I remember y'all were in that band and oh my god who was it it gary or you.
03:58.58 Pat Yeah, um.
04:02.47 Pat Oh yeah, oh my God Ah yeah, yeah, was here.
04:09.69 tduval18 Um I love that you're naming all these people that I do not remember so that's great.
04:12.10 Ashley You know Tom Tom oh I don't want to put his whole government name out but you know him I'm probably I would to spell his name wrong probably? but.
04:16.25 Pat Yeah.
04:16.97 tduval18 Type it in the chat and maybe I'll remember it I mean I typically I was to say oh yeah I do remember him. Okay, but I don't know who Gary is.
04:23.00 Pat Now out and post.
04:26.98 Ashley I don't know Gary's last name I don't know his last name but he was short. He wasn't a shorter kid. Oh yeah, yeah.
04:32.17 Pat I'll type and then now top read I'll type in.
04:33.89 tduval18 No nothing I mean maybe that's why I was really emo in high school and didn't want to talk to people but people talk to me? Um, but in and and and no, no, no no.
04:39.41 Pat Yep yep, yeah, he didn't go to Ken we but he knew a lot of Ken.
04:46.60 Pat Well they got it in their time I feel that.
04:47.41 Ashley You had a lot of friends. Yes, we do this every time and we do it every time.
04:53.73 tduval18 No I had acquaintances we do but I had acquaintances I had acquaintances I only count a certain of amount of people as actual friends high school.
05:00.35 Ashley Okay, they you were acquaintances but you were so you were outgoing you were you were the outgoing one of of us in school. We do this you. But.
05:02.75 Pat I Was there.
05:07.73 tduval18 But we do this. We do this every time a outgoing and being a bitch are 2 different things I just didn't take any one shit. Yeah there you go.
05:15.81 Ashley Ah, good, Well not to me Anyway, you were to other people but not to me.
05:18.55 Pat Yeah, see Tyler. Yeah I've seen Tyler a savage side. Um, you know to other students. Yeah, but I've seen her savage said to other students but I never remembered you know her being that way to me so that like I got lucky there. Ah.
05:28.47 tduval18 Yeah I mean that just means you weren't an asshole like if I had to be an asshole that was because someone was being an asshole and I wasn't afraid for or fighting in the damn stairwells every time I'm trying to get the class. It's annoying.
05:41.12 Pat I Try to be nuts. Everyone back in the day that it wasn't that case though, but anyway.
05:41.23 Ashley So and created that to.
05:47.26 tduval18 No no, you can't be nice. Everyone. But um I guess my first question for you is how are you feeling with this new ep dropping.
05:54.17 Pat Um, so actually it's a first full length album which I'm super excited about ah first yeah, how I feel about the full length album I mean like I spent like fifteen months on this album so like super super excited about releasing it.
05:56.81 tduval18 You heard it here first.
06:04.89 Ashley Well.
06:09.59 Pat Yeah I mean like this took ah almost like a year and a half making um like crazy thing about the um full length was like so I recorded the best of me ep, um and I released it April of 2021 and around that time the um ep release show. Granted it was a social distance performance because you know. So kind of weird times and everything like that unfortunately I don't need to put my mom on the spot but like um, my mom had covid and I got exposed to it so because of that I was forced to quarantine even though I tested negative I didn't want to you know risk like you know performing just in case, kind of a thing. So um. After um, you know while I was quarantined you know I was asking people what they thought about the best of me ep and asking people like what they want next and then you know next you know people were asking for more new music and I was like wait. What are you talking about I just released this ep I spent eight months on this What are you talking about? and ah.
06:58.89 Ashley Birth.
07:05.21 Pat After when the ep was um, you know released and more people wanted more new music I was like okay I guess I'll just go back and start writing more new songs because I mean I got I'm quarantined I got nothing else better to do so a few months after best me was released I decided to. Um I hit up my arm producer went back in studio and I was like yeah I think I'm ready to start a full length album more people were asking for morning music. So why the heck not is it the perfect time. So why not.
07:28.18 tduval18 I mean shout out to mom then because that probably really pushed that creative direction because you had the time so shout out to Mom forgive.
07:36.98 Pat Exact Yeah, my mom is my biggest fan I love her. She's my biggest fan so she'll go to every show she'll share every music video. She'll share like you know, um the merchandise she'll like tell people like to buy my merch. She's my biggest supporter I love her. So.
07:39.84 Ashley Oh.
07:50.61 Ashley I Love that.
07:53.00 tduval18 That's amazing and I think my next one kind of leaving ah is you've been a pop artist. But as Ashley said you've been in a band. You've done pop punk. What makes you love pop music so much that that like is where you kind of are driven to.
08:05.97 Pat Um, I've always love pop music even like you know when we were kids but the thing is like you know when you're this is the unfortunate thing and we're talking about like you know the awful times of stemmers and everything like that. Ah, because of how judgmental and how cruel kids are like you know during a stemmers run middle school days. You know. You can't really be open to the type of music you like which is so unfortunate you know and I've always loved pop music've you know I was always into like the boy bands like in sync and backs youe boys I stole jam out to in sync and backs you boys. Um, fun fact. Ah so total side note to that. Ah, the guy who's direct supporting me. Um. He ah hit me up and was like hey do you want to do a karaoke competition. We're going to sing in sync. You know we could promote our show I was like hell yeah, let's do that you know movie saying bye bye bye people are going crazy. Anyways, um, back to back main topic. Ah yeah, I've always loved pop music and I mentioned the 90 s boy bandson. Ah, you know because of the times you know like you know during the early two thousand s more people were into like good Charlotte simple plan I remember Tyler I remember us bonding over certain bands like Mike come core romance fallout boy um, good Charlotte. Yeah.
09:12.00 tduval18 Always still stop bands and just to piggyback on what you said before is I was actually just listening to Insync all day to day while working so never is that a style.
09:21.81 Pat Bra Now I love in sync I mean I was more of a bash boys fan. But I love both of them. But ah, but like yeah I mean I've always been into pop music. But what really made me really want to go um into the pop solo pop direction specifically. Um.
09:24.69 Ashley But I love it.
09:39.90 Pat I don't want you I don't mean to put ah um, one of my former bandmates on the spot like this but it was actually when um, music was changing during that time like during the early 2010 s and music was changing during that time. Ah not a lot of people were going out to like the music seemed like they used to and I just remember writing music for myself. You know and I remember 1 of my former bandmates again I won't say his name. He just goes like you're not meant to write music for yourself. You're meant to write music for us. You're not a solo guy. You're a band guy and then I just remember giving him this look like what are you talking about like I'm a musician I can write for like whoever I want I can write music um like for myself I I want to I can write music for you guys. Like what difference does it make and and around that time I just knew that I didn't want to do it anymore and I just knew that I wanted to make music that was like my own I was I was like nineteen turning twenty and I was just like ready to you know I just felt so confident around that time but the real seed of that was. When I auditioned for America's got talent that was like the real seed of like the idea of you know what? maybe this solo thing is actually not that bad. You know I um, auditioned for America's got talent. Granted I didn't get in but the thing that I recommend to people who want to do this whole like you know. Music thing is don't rely so much on reality tv like that's just the main advice I could give is just like you know, just like if you have the ability to you know like have great great social media skills and you know just get your name out there like you know the right social media skills. Don't be afraid to talk to people.
11:10.40 Pat And ah, you know, just like learn some certain strategies like it's you know it's ah like so much easier like along the road I had to learn that you know after when the group broke up I had to do a lot of like learning a lot about the business side after the group broker broke up. So.
11:25.30 tduval18 That's something that I feel like is a great thing that isn't talked about as much but I'm a really big fan of the rapper Russ and he actually talks about like know your business piece because as an artist you can get.
11:25.60 Ashley That's something that I.
11:40.16 tduval18 Not only scammed but screwed over and I think sometimes it's really cool that one of like you I don't want to say your bandmate was a hater but someone giving you advice that was probably negative actually drove like drove you to do the opposite and it helped encourage you to it but it is a big piece that people don't talk about as the business.
11:41.98 Pat Um, absolutely.
11:58.44 tduval18 And we do have so many reality shows now that not only reality shows but Tiktok everything where it makes it like oh we'll just come on social media and you'll become a star and it's like that's not actually realistic only a handful of people do get picked that and then that's a lot of the times my chance.
12:07.27 Pat Um, nope.
12:14.20 Pat Exactly and the thing about that too. So it's like half of it has to do with luck I mean like yeah I mean like there's certain type of strategies. But some people who have no strategies who have no social media strategies at all. They just get picked up out of nowhere. You know it's just like half it has to do with luck. You know. So I just feel like anyone who just like wants to do the whole music thing I just like just learn the business side of it if you want to take it seriously learn the business side of it because people thought that when I went solo that I already had these connections because I used to be in the band but that wasn't the case at all I was actually the laziest one out of I mean like. More of like the laziest 1 in the business side learning about the business side of things because at the time I was the last one to um, get my license. Um, the guys would always like drive me everywhere. Ah you see like um. And thing about that too. Ah, one of the guys like had connections to photographer. Another one had a connection to a recording studio and the other one was booking. You know our shows and everything like that. So for me me being 1718 I didn't have to worry about indian that stuff at the time until I went on my own I was like oh shoot like what am I doing. I have no idea what I'm doing like what the heck like someone help me out here. You know.
13:25.92 Ashley And I never really even thought about that side. No like I don't I don't ever I don't ever think about the behind the scenes I'm very.
13:26.90 tduval18 And when I think that's huge show really see I always thought about like you need to have connections.
13:35.48 Pat But.
13:42.85 Ashley I'm just like I'm really oblivious when it comes to stuff so like I'm like what I see is how it is I I never thought about like you know, getting all that stuff trying to promote and doing this and doing that like that's a lot of work and I respect that you do that by yourself and. Like when you were starting out because I don't think I could do that So That's awesome.
14:03.84 Pat Right.
14:04.40 tduval18 1 I think I was going to say I think I've always wanted to know like what goes into something that's my brain just I need to understand from like beginning to end and as I've gotten older and managing a team and seeing that piece it really does I always kind of look at like what does it take. To make this one product like if we're just putting this like what do you have to make to it who's involved with it. How do you get business pieces and I've always been interested in it and I think we've talked about it on the podcast before that's part of the reason why I always end up listening to a lot of artists like interviews because I like hearing not only like what they're interested in. But.
14:27.90 Pat Exactly.
14:40.87 tduval18 Process I think it was um, Billy Eilish and Phineas had done like an interview talking about how they actually produce their music together and like what happens for it and that's fascinating to me because I don't ever think about like. You hear this song and you got 3 minutes where you're like great like I love this I think but you're not thinking about well they had to set up production for this and someone had to make sure this guitar sounded like it and the rift had to make it and all those details. Um, and I think you kind of answered my other question already. But.
15:02.68 Pat Brave.
15:09.44 tduval18 Who are your biggest inspirations in music.
15:12.83 Pat Oh my God I'm in like biggest inspiration. Um like solo wise or just in general because I have so many like different music inspirations. So ah, okay so back when I was in a group. Um, since ah since we're talking about like that. Ah.
15:19.42 tduval18 We got time. So both.
15:29.38 Pat Back when I was in face day I really wanted us to be the next all time low during that time because you know all time low. They were um, they started you know they're from Baltimore you know they used to play at the record like constantly you know and I remember exactly exactly I was.
15:40.62 Ashley Dude I remember they would play at Towson University They played there all the time.
15:48.14 Pat Really big and all time low and the craziest things like I actually had a drink with Alex the lead singer right before lockdown. No total side note to that. But like oh my god you see what your podcast has done but ah total rubbed off me I say side note like all the time now but like um.
15:56.42 Ashley Minimum.
16:03.46 tduval18 That's what we want. We want people to start saying it all the time.
16:06.78 Pat Oh my god you old mission accomplished mission accomplished. Um, so Tyler I didn't I know I mentioned this earlier about like you know bands that we would talk about back in the day and yeah I'm gonna say them again. You know, bands like good charlotte fallup boy simple plan newfound glory. You know all you know.
16:21.99 tduval18 But side note to that I think you pointed out on something that I really noticed is if you're from Maryland you ride for Maryland hard so like good Charlotte all time low logic like anyone who's from Maryland like people will ride hard for you like.
16:22.37 Pat Um, American Rejects Green day blink will need to.
16:36.36 Pat Next.
16:41.29 tduval18 We care about our flag we care about crabs o obey and like if you're from Maryland we're gonna we're gonna support you.
16:47.14 Ashley That's true I've actually found out a band I think it was dangerous summer I think it was I found that they were out from ellicot city and because I saw where they were from them like I'm a fuck I listen to them just because they're from Maryland and they're bomb. They're really good.
16:51.84 Pat Um, yeah, that's.
16:57.78 tduval18 Yeah, and you know what? as much as we make fun of it on this podcast all the time I like Frank being like I'm from Jersey like he is what we do as Maryland like he's Maryland in Jersey because like he is going to Rep Jersey no matter what.
16:57.88 Pat Um, absolutely.
17:09.49 Ashley You represent he is representing.
17:14.88 tduval18 But we cut you off at Green day. What who else? do you got I know I'm surprised you haven't mentioned one yet that I'm I'm really surprised you haven't mentioned a solo artist yet.
17:16.42 Pat Yeah I hope the specific solo artist I didn't want to say that I don't want to say because I you already know who I'm going to say. Ah yeah, um, solo artists I was I was going to say like Justin Timberlake um John Mayer ah there's a new one that's out right now. Um his name's catchy. That's mon dude right? There? Um yeah, but ah, you already know who I'm going to say um Jesse Mccartney big music inspiration of mine. You were waiting for that you were waiting for that.
17:43.79 tduval18 Yes, I was waiting like our our fans might not know that that's a big music inspiration to you and you've actually met him and.
17:56.70 Pat Oh numerous times numerous times. Yes, Jesse Mccartney um yes so back? Um, yeah, he did well he did ah he just he released an album called new stage and this is the thing too. Tyler mentioned about how.
17:59.72 Ashley Um, you remember you? that's sick.
18:10.20 Pat People in the music business get screwed over and unfortunately with Jesse ah, you know he used to be like know the Justin Bieber back in the day but then hollywood records totally screwed him over and then he's basically more of like the um like a indie artist now so he just mainly does like you know, ah theater size venues which is cool I'd rather do that than do. I'd rather sell out theater size venues than stadiums like Ariana.
18:31.31 Ashley I Agree agreed.
18:33.77 tduval18 Honestly I was going to say when I just went and saw in um, November ls dunes they were at auto bar and like this was not a little like all of them are Megat stars in my opinion you have Frank from my chemical romance the drummer and the. 1 guitarist are from Thursday the singers from sleeping with or circus survive The other guitarist is from coheating cambrio they're all big bands but they literally I paid $35 and was like closer than I probably ever would have been don't get me wrong. It was 100% worth the ticket price and sitting in the seats to see my chem in Philly.
19:00.52 Pat Um, exactly.
19:11.80 tduval18 But if mine Kim would have played like a small venue like that I would have lost my shit.
19:13.70 Pat Exactly I feel like there's something about a theater size venue. That's so intimate versus like seeing someone through a screen at an arena. You know it's just something That's so intimate and sorry absolutely.
19:21.81 Ashley The the vibe is so different.
19:29.15 Pat And when I saw Jesse Jesse was just like I mean you can see this on my Instagram Jesse was just immediately like oh my god pad how's the music going like he immediately remembered me which is like the coolest thing ever. Ah because I mean we were talking about music influences and. Like this is something that not a lot of fans um know is just like I've been a fan of him since stream street back in his boyband days like yeah people who don't know just oh my god yeah, unfortunately one of them did you hear that one of them passed away from covid did you hear about that.
19:49.23 Ashley I remember James Street
19:57.11 Ashley Fuck. No no I didn't who that is awful. He was how old were me Oh damn that is awful that really is sad.
20:02.52 Pat Ah, Chris truesdale.
20:04.63 tduval18 Gonna she's gonna.
20:06.78 Pat He was 34 I think 34
20:15.28 Pat Yeah, he was really young. Yeah, but um, yeah, but Jesse yeah, like he instantly remembered me I gave him ah 1 um, a piece of my merchandise. Ah and like when I met him the first time. Yeah, it was it was.
20:26.64 Ashley Um, oh but soy.
20:31.13 Pat I've actually met a couple of his former dream street band members too at 1 point like back when I was in a band but that's another story but anyway be it actually the um since we're talking about Jesse the advice of that was saying about like you know how social media is just the way to go and relying.
20:35.99 Ashley Wow.
20:49.74 Pat Um, like doing all indie that was actually an interview that I heard from Jesse from like back in like 2014 when he went indie he was like encouraging people to go indie and say like with the power of social media. You know you have the ability to you know, get your name out there if you have the right social media skills and that kind of stuck with me and that made me just go like. Well that and also the way how I saw how America's got talent was and seeing how like how scripted it was it just made me go like man like what like how am I supposed to be doing this music now because even though this is my first full length album and the best of me ep did very well last year I just felt like because I put two eps out before but before best in me and I felt like the first 2 eps like it didn't get me into the music scene at all because I was playing it um like not not dissing any um you know, like not dissing people who do this but um I was doing um, open mics. And I was um, you know, not really doing like actual gigs like actual shows like at the record or shows are zen west or anything like that. It was all like just open mics for fun which again I'm not disssing anyone who does that. But when you're doing open mics and you aren't like doing like actual show shows like it makes you go like. What what am I doing like I'm not getting paid for this. You know, no one's listening to my music you know I'm saying like he comes home.
22:10.96 tduval18 Well I think that's the thing that people don't realize and I'm just gonna side track Follow a bouncing ball is in any profession that you do. You should be paid for what you do and really make that money and I think this is something that's been changing if the new. New. Our generation is not taking shit like they're like I'm not going to work this job that barely pays me anything and you want me to like die for you and if I died tomorrow you would replace me so I think it is a good thing to realize like your worth is you getting paid for this music that you put out and it's beautiful and it's. You should get compensated for that. It shouldn't be that it has to be such a struggle for a local artist to do it or just play open mics and not get paid.
22:47.52 Pat Um, yeah.
22:55.80 Pat Exactly and I don't want to like I do thank ah Jesse for being a big reason why my fan bases started growing because the moment I posted that video of Jesse Mccartney and I facet timing all of a sudden people started listening to best in me people started like you know, checking out my music. So shout out to my boy jmac right now shout out to Jesse Frill
23:14.20 Ashley Um, interiormatic.
23:16.15 tduval18 So important and I think back into your music too is a lot of your songs are about unrequited Love or love is that an easy inspiration for you to pull up or did you know that you were going to have so many beautiful songs about like. A relationship working out or not working out.
23:37.48 Pat Ah, it just depend on like how was feeling at the time you know? ah I don't want be your typical musician like saying that you know we need our mus to write songs about you know, but um, almost the truth right? there. Ah, that's the cool thing about.
23:49.93 tduval18 That's so funny. You said that because I had who's your muse so I didn't know if you really had 1 or not so I love that.
23:56.95 Pat Oh yeah, yeah, ah so the new album that's coming out I mean Tyler you've been saying the word driven a lot. It's actually name driven. Ah which is funny. You say that? Um, the new album's called driven.
24:04.93 tduval18 To me I didn't even know that so guys that was not planned that was a joke awake I did not know that at all.
24:13.33 Pat You learn something every day right? Yeah, the new Album's called driven and this one ah has actually not that many love songs. Surprisingly the new album doesn't have that. Not that many love songs. It kind of has songs I mean has some love songs more heartbreak songs than Cutesy I like you type of songs like these type of songs are more of like about. The music journey talking about stuff like you know I ah had to force myself to focus on my music because this girl hurt me or um I am writing songs about like you know, saying that this um you know keep going after what you want keep going after like because.
24:42.94 Ashley No.
24:46.62 Pat Real inspiration behind this album had to do with like a lot of haters like um talking major trash about me and saying stuff like you know Pat thinks he's better than us because he knows Jesse Mccartney or Pat thinks he's like the shit and there was like a lot of haters that were saying like nasty things to me like saying it's like nobody likes you and all the other stuff. And we're human, you know we do feel a certain way about it and I try to tell myself like no let the haters be the motivators but you know it's another thing too when those haters are former friends of yours and there was a certain song that I you know, call them out for in that album. But yeah, like to answer the question about like you know who the mu is like there's no specific use for this album but ah from the from the best of me e piece surprisingly all right? So have any of you'll seen the show. Love is blind on Netflix ah, okay, okay, okay, so.
25:31.94 Ashley I haven't no.
25:32.35 tduval18 Some of it I've seen some of it and.
25:39.90 Pat Around that time. Ah, this was like obviously this is during spring 2020 when you know covid was like you know you know, really bad. You know? well you know I'm and you know I'm quarantined there was nothing else better to do and there's a experiment um called your city is blind. And they were basically like you know trying to you know do a quarantine version of um love is blind on Netflix so I'm just like here I am I'm saying I have nothing else better to do why? The heck not so I sign up for your city is blind I was in Baltimore's blind and we had to download these apps. We had to talk to these. Um I had to talk to you on 10 different women and you know just like basically the same process as love is blind. You know you can't see their face. You can't you know, search them on social media. They did a really good job with that. But the difference was that instead of searching for marriage. We were just looking for a quarantine bay what what? I was totally cool with I was totally cool with.
26:33.42 tduval18 I Love that.
26:35.27 Pat Um, I yeah now a lot people know about that. So if you hear the best of me ep, you'll hear a lot of um, you'll hear a lot of loves blind references. You'll hear some um references about you know covid and everything but back to the album you know. It's a totally different vibe versus the best of me ep the best of me ep which is more was very cutesy. This one is just like more of like a taste of life. You could say just talking about you know, just life in general like the struggles of like if you're ambitious and you just want to go after something or you having all these people like you know who are tearing you down like trying to. Make you feel like you know like you're not good enough. You know and I just want to be that person too when you listen to this album and you're um, you know like after you finish this album, you're just like wow like I um, yeah like I want to go out and do something with my life now I want to go out and chase after what it was that I was so afraid of. And another thing too was like I was trying to get away from well I wouldn't say like really get away from it because I don't think I ever will completely just because he's been an inspiration to mine but like I was trying to get away from that Jesse Sound as well. That's another thing about my new album too I was trying to get away from.
27:40.87 tduval18 Yeah, let's ah and I feel like you kind of answered why? Well my next question was is obviously I'm a big Taylor Swift fan and she is spoken in length about how her albums she sees them as like different seasons and you kind of went into like what kind of season this is for it and the.
27:50.64 Pat Yeah.
27:58.38 tduval18 From the understanding I got I'm thinking like a winter fall vibe. That's what I'm feeling on it but I'll have to hear it and see if it stays that way. But I think it's also important Ashley and I have talked about this before that as an artist you grow.
28:01.90 Pat No.
28:11.22 Pat Exactly.
28:13.40 tduval18 I know as kids we all used to hate it like I will never forget when danger days came out and I was just like this isn't Mike Hem this doesn't sound like them. This isn't what and now it's not my favorite album but like 1 of my top ones of theirs and I think actually's too. It's.
28:22.17 Ashley And 1 of my top ones of theirs. Um, no I it's crazy how like your lookcom music changes as you get older going back to my chem of how they were so they were harder on their first album and then when they got a little bit like more poppy.
28:35.55 Pat Exactly.
28:44.41 Ashley It's so crazy when I was younger I didn't care for that and now it's like wow I love when artists can change and they change their sound and they do things like that I think I feel like that takes more creativity than just stick into 1 thing.
28:57.61 Pat Yeah, the note the ones genre that you're known for and to add on to that's what you're saying too sometimes like you know at least for my case sometimes you don't realize you're changing genres while you're in the process because this album took fifteen months to make so that's why I'm just like either I created something different like you know. As it was going on or I just created something that was cool like fifteen months ago you know I'm saying but like to add on what you're saying too like another example, um because Lincoln Park you know they had a lot of backlash when on their last album before chester died of you know. 1 more light album how it got super pop and everything like that like they got a lot of backlash for that and I was like oh my gosh like you know like they're out of all band.
29:38.35 tduval18 Can know they have a song on twilight like in the franchise I'm pretty sure they had a song in the twilight franchise too I'm a double check that while you guys discuss this.
29:44.99 Pat I Knew they did in transformers but I don't know about twilight Good question. Yeah, but I'm super excited for y'all to check out the album have you heard the latest single is this goodbye.
30:00.11 Ashley Yeah I was listening to a yesterday and the day before and today super good and I see where you're going with the um, it's it's kind of tech knowy um I kind of know I dig that it's.
30:03.65 Pat I might. Yeah I was going for that.
30:14.20 Ashley Fantastic when you're working out I was listening to it as I was doing some cardio because it has a nice upbeat, really good I really like it a lot but there was a song that you did in 2022 I'm not afraid.
30:17.65 Pat Are.
30:26.42 tduval18 Side note side note side note yes Lincoln Park leave out the rest was in twilight on the soundtrack I knew I love 1 thing people people hate on twilight and I personally love it. You can't take it serious but I love it.
30:34.26 Ashley With them upon people.
30:34.93 Pat Um, oh my god.
30:43.55 Ashley I think I I never listened to LiPark I don't know why I was never like in park girl and I think I've only seen Tlight was with you jovanda like I've never I don't think I've watched it with anybody else and maybe that was one time.
30:45.28 tduval18 Back to your other song. Sorry.
30:46.94 Pat Not a thing.
30:57.27 Pat All my one I.
31:00.94 tduval18 Truthfully twilight's my movie if I'm in like a sappy mood like you know how you watch 50 shades I will just watch twilight like the whole series just watch it it but the part of it is.
31:08.50 Ashley Try like series. So that's a with some wine 50 shades and a glass one its here. But why the versus my mother a republic all pieces like points runs and I know right.
31:09.87 Pat Oh my god.
31:16.73 tduval18 It's easier to watch twilight versus my other love which is Harry Potter because Harry Potter to watch all of the movies is like 22 hours and
31:21.50 Pat Oh my God I know right.
31:26.90 Ashley I haven't even finished all of those I think I stopped at like 5 or 4 which there's the 8 which there's 8 right? So I I don't even remember I would have to probably restart. So.
31:29.74 Pat Oh my god.
31:32.17 tduval18 You make me sick.
31:41.67 tduval18 No, it's not do not do not playcate her. It's not all right. She has a Harry Potter is a Harry Potter best friend and her husband. Yep her husband loves Harry Potter too he has a cool last robe.
31:42.38 Pat It's all good. Ashley it's all good. Yeah.
31:44.72 Ashley Hurt. It's not no Jovanda It's right, He's right? and.
31:52.40 Pat We what.
31:54.87 Ashley Windwards Yeah part.
31:58.18 Ashley And he does not have a robe. He does not have a robe no just different and I love this I.
31:59.28 tduval18 And she's not washed Harry Potter you didn't get him the cool gryffindor robe just this for Kevin.
32:03.62 Pat Um, oh he's a good.
32:08.48 Pat Bra I love this interview right now I love this. So so as year. So as yeah, you were talking about my song I'm not yeah the acoustic song.
32:14.76 Ashley I mean I like here's where but I'm not.
32:17.79 tduval18 Back to your song. Ashley.
32:20.12 Ashley oh oh yeah, yeah no there was a lyric that you had put in there I felt that to the core when you were like what they saw in the service wasn't what I felt inside I'm like okay Pat I feel that right there.
32:37.90 Pat Oh my God Um I I havet put problem. Thank you I'll tell you I have no problem talking about this like I don't I have no problem spilling the tea with that song. No problem about that all. So yeah, so basically what.
32:39.53 Ashley Yeah, that was a good that That's a good song. The lyrics are really good.
32:48.23 Ashley We love tea.
32:53.88 Pat That song was about um someone who I used to be really good friends with we had this really great brother and sister relationship. But then ah you know basically one of her. Um her friends don't like me and I said that I wish that she would do So um, you know she would pursue her dreams instead of doing nothing about it and then her friends took it the wrong way. And they were basically like hey you know past talking shit about you. You know he said like you know he's tired of you not doing anything about it and then after that then that's when um, her friends basically ganged up on me cussing me out and telling me stuff like you know where are you with your music why you attacking her for no reason why like where are you with your music with this. We don't like you no one likes you and then literally like and then my former friend sideed with them because her feelings were just so hurt with what I said and then I just like I was just walking through that cold very upset and literally breaking down crying because I was just like damn like this is a.
33:48.45 Ashley Um, not enough.
33:50.96 Pat I Can't believe all these people like were just like so vicious and just like you know, attacking me just because I said apparently me saying going after your dreams was so foul to them. But um, that was just like the inspiration behind that song really? so.
34:02.70 Ashley Both it's a it's a really good song. The lyrics are bomb like they're really good lyrics I think that's probably 1 of my favorite songs to be honest, like I really like that one a lot.
34:11.63 Pat Ah, think that's one my favorites to play live actually I get emotional when I play that song live. So.
34:15.35 Ashley That was one of my questions I wanted to know what your favorite song was to play live but it's that one.
34:22.42 Pat Ah, my favorite song to play live. Um, it might change because I haven't played the new songs from the album live just yet. But ah, one of my favorite songs to play live from the best of me ep would probably have to be ah, probably ought to be ah feels like home. Like it's it's so debatable because ah I love the best of me ep, but like um probably the song feels like home just because like I do this intro thing like where I just come on stage and then people start screaming and then I just um I have this big like let's go and then like everyone just gets blood pumping. It's just a feeling that you never really you know, get tired of but also. Probably best in me only because like it's usually my closing song and when I um you know close that song I just love seeing people sing along to it. That's like 1 of the most rewarding feelings ever is like when you perform live and you know people like you know respond to it very well and they're singing along to your stuff and like one of the things too is like ah. Remember returning to the record theater December of 2021 and around that time you know it was like my first record show since ah, you know since the record closed down back in 2013 and I remember hitting up one of my former bandmates and then I'm not going to say which one but I remember hitting up one of my former bandmates. And then asking him like you know, can you come see me you know, see my show and say you're killing a dog about wish it was ah all of us that was performing at the record. No joke. He said that? Yeah, he's like you're killing it by wish it was us performing.
35:50.65 Ashley Wow.
35:58.39 Ashley Well rude.
35:59.55 tduval18 And I think something you touched on that I always wondered and I think Ashley and I have talked about it before is like that feeling of a crowd singing back to you I remember watching multiple different artists right now. What I could think of is because I just watched it because of his birthday was like Harry had this crowd like singing back to him harry styles.
36:16.51 Pat Are are absolutely.
36:18.96 tduval18 As if we're friends I'm like Harry but singing back to him and you could just see the emotion of what that feels like and so that's something to me that I'm like I don't know if I would be freaked out or like what it would happen because I'm like oh wow like these people like me and that's a very I think. Why so many artists too. People are always surprised when artists turn to like drugs or alcohol or something but I'm like you have to think about that's like an incredible high and then you have to recreate it.
36:45.61 Ashley I.
36:47.35 Pat I mean like I've always I've always post the greatest I'm I'm sorry I'm sorry Ashley I was gonna say that I've always um, was like the most straight edge kid you know back in middle in high school but like after now being in the music scene and seeing like why these musicians do it I'm like I completely understand. Because it's like a lot of pressure and even as a local artist surprisingly like a local artist like it's a lot of pressure too like because they're they're high expectations because venues want you to sell a certain amount of tickets they want you like you're trying to hit a certain amount of streams on Spotify you know and if people don't care if they're not sharing your music you just like. You you feel shitty you know you just really feel shitty's like wow people like do people not care about my music or what I do like are the haters rights you know so stuff like that goes through your head. So I don't really blame a lot of I'm not saying that it's the answer. But I'm saying that I have a better understanding now as an adult versus you know when I was in um, you know middle and high school. But were you saying Ashley.
37:44.77 Ashley I Don't even remember oh no, no now the just going back to that feeling when the audience is saying it back to you I Really love it when I go to a show and like you're up close and you're and you can hear.
37:49.39 Pat Um, ah.
38:03.90 Ashley Everybody singing the song and then they stop like the artist stops singing but then everybody still continues with the lyric I get the chills. It's It's just so I can't imagine like if I feel like that I can't imagine what like. Actually being up on stage looking down at everybody singing those lyrics back. That's going to be crazy.
38:24.71 Pat Right? There's a best feeling in the world. A fun fact about that. Um, this is back in May of last year I did a um I had my first direct supporting. Um my first direct support show at the record and ah I remember that. When we were my backing guitarists. We were performing and all of a sudden out of nowhere the backtrack just stops and it's just like super awkward and then the crowds like wait what happened and I remember telling everyone to um, give me a beat while we figure out the um, you know while we figure out what's wrong. The max. So everyone starts clapping. I start singing the song in Acapella and then all of a sudden you hear the crowd sing back I'm gonna send to you all after this interview is over I remember. Ah yeah, that was the best feeling ever. It was just like oh my gosh even though we had technical problems and seeing everyone.
39:04.87 Ashley I Would love to see it.
39:14.91 Pat Ah, you know, just sing along to the song afterwards I was just like oh my God That's one hell of a comeback right? there freaking Love that.
39:18.27 tduval18 But I think that's also to your artistry right? like obviously I can tie anything back to Taylor Swift but that had happened at 1 of her shows on reputation where it like 1 of the things broke and so they weren't able if I don't know if everyone's seen her reputation but she would go across the stage like across the audience.
39:28.31 Ashley Look.
39:35.58 Pat And right.
39:37.32 tduval18 And it broke so she ended up doing it acapella and it's probably 1 of my favorite performances by her because of it so it kind of shows that as an artist you're able to think on your feet and come up with like okay well, how do I keep my audience engaged while also it's probably like terrifying of like what the hell broke.
39:54.10 Pat Exactly exactly and that's one of the things I love about your podcast too is like ah you know obviously Tyler I know that you're um, you know a big tay fan and I just love how you bring music a lot into your podcast like you know you learn something a lot for example, like after hearing. You know about Taylor Swift and made me more interested in Taylor Swift and all of a sudden I remember I was listening to the discography I was like oh crap my bad I forgot that um you know I forgot I'm not listening to Taylor's version my bad y'all and I was like oh wait, let me change that real back. Let me change that really, but.
40:22.43 tduval18 Yep, put respect on Taylor's version we only once there's a tailor's version. That's all we get and I think that's something Ashley and I really wanted to focus on too is like 1 of the biggest things both of her and I have in common is our love for music and while we don't always. 1 of these days we're gonna end up picking the same song of the week it's gonna happen but there will be times where like Ashley's listening to a lot more heavier stuff. But I'm over here listening to like just some little like pop artist thing or Ashley's listening to pop artists and I'm over here listening to the country probably not country but like occasionally maybe.
40:58.16 Pat Um.
40:58.36 tduval18 Um, but it's always interesting because you can find a focal point and like 1 thing that we wanted to do in this year especially is start to do more of our bonus episodes where we're deep diving into different artists because not only do we find something and I I don't want to speak for Ashley but I always love finding out things I didn't know. But then it also like brings me back to like looking at I think Ashley talked about the academy is the other day or to me we were on a phone call and she's like they're touring and like what like I loved them like 2007 and 8 me. You could not tell me shit about academy is I'm like oh they're touring I will totally go out so it gives us a chance to get get more information about an artist again and then maybe see that they're still touring I think someone else is still touring that I was shocked by but that happens often.
41:38.39 Ashley That that happened.
41:40.53 Pat And that's like a cool thing too because like we're doing this ah podcast collab as well. Like you know you're interviewing someone that you knew from you know from middle school. You know some of they actually seen as a kid growing up. You know that's the coolest thing in my opinion you know like.
41:55.96 tduval18 Um, yeah, versus seeing them in um, like Sunset cove and being like oh fuck.
41:59.31 Pat I Know oh I never go to Sunset co for that. Very reason I never go.
42:03.74 Ashley I think I've been there 1
42:09.76 tduval18 I yeah I think you've only been there once I used to go quite often. My friend and I used to get their fish bowls. Great great drink but like I ten ten would not go there out because I do not want a high school reunion I was low key excited when covid like stopped our high school reunion I was fine with that.
42:22.14 Pat Um, exactly.
42:25.59 Pat But oh my god I feel that Tyler I feel that I mean I wish it wasn't like I wish that wasn't the reason why but I would not want to you know, go to our high school reunion. No and no, what let me get my blue and then we'll talk I'm kidding.
42:37.44 tduval18 Um, I mean I mean I wouldn't hate it. It's just like I I feel like social media takes out the excitement of like a high school reunion like if this was back in the day I feel like it would be more exciting.
42:42.44 Ashley Um, you know.
42:47.34 Pat Absolutely.
42:50.41 Ashley Um, not true. There is.
42:52.25 tduval18 But now like you can see well unless you're like me because if I don't interact with you like I'm I'm removing you from my Instagram and I don't have Facebook I will never go back to Facebook but you see everyone you see everything like that's what's crazy to me is social media takes that aspect out of it whereas like.
42:59.41 Pat Um, you're not missing much tyler.
43:10.73 tduval18 For my mom's age group shout out mom born in the 60 s but for her age group like most of the time after they separate ways it the high school reun was you get to see people and be like well so I think it. It's just changed now with social media that it doesn't seem like I know if I want to look up. So and so that I was friends with in ninth grade like I can most likely find their Instagram and be like okay, that's how they're doing unless that's private like mine.
43:32.69 Ashley Yeah, that's true. You go find their like their information and where they work who's their friends where do they go on the weekends like you can find out everything and that's creepy but it it really does take out the excitement I mean I probably want to go to the.
43:35.24 Pat Yeah.
43:47.27 Pat Um, absolutely.
43:50.73 Ashley My our high school ring unit. Even if we didn't have social media I would not I will go hang out with you I would not go I didn't like high school I was just like that outcast.
43:55.66 tduval18 You're lying. You want to know why you would go because it would be a trip to come home and me and you could get drunk and hang out. Yeah.
43:58.96 Pat Well my god.
44:08.93 Ashley Was quiet. Nobody talked to me ah just like everybody was fucking mean so I want to go people are rude gaable I'm a bitch and I just kind of just sat there very quietly in the corner.
44:12.84 Pat Were they really were.
44:16.84 tduval18 I was just mean back. So and I know you really were That's every every quiet person needs someone who's not gonna take shit.
44:26.10 Ashley I'm still like yeah I'm very I'm just quiet and I just sit there and just let it happen I observe.
44:34.10 tduval18 I mean I'm I'm a little bit nicer in my old age like now I probably won't be so off the wall but occasionally occasionally it comes back Occasionally I'm like let's go um actually had some additional questions because we are still doing our.
44:37.56 Ashley In my old village.
44:48.28 tduval18 Interview I know it just seems like we're just having a great time. So actually what are some other ones you have.
44:51.31 Pat Um, and it's a great time.
44:54.24 Ashley Well, a lot of the ones that I had you kind of answered um but one of the ones I wanted to know is like what do what a ritual that you do before you play live like is there anything specific that you have to do.
45:05.26 Pat Well god oh yeah I do actually? ah well I got this from a documentary a music documentary that I saw and I always wanted to do that. So basically whoever I bring on stage with me whether it's like my backing musicians or someone I want to collab with. Um, like onsage what we do is like we do like this clap and basically it has to sound like it can't sound like numerous claps going on one time. It's got to sound like 1 clap and then if we are in 1 clap if we're in sync together. Then you know we go on stage and do our thing so that's come like our ritual.
45:33.73 Ashley So it'll take multiple tries so it would it'll take multiple tries for you to get that clap right.
45:38.89 Pat Is that.
45:42.43 Pat Yeah, exactly so we try to get that class. We could sound like 1 class.
45:44.64 tduval18 I mean I I think yours is a little bit safer than Joe Jonas's because he like has his wife slap him across the face. So.
45:52.26 Ashley Ah, that's what I That's why I was thinking about it. That's what made me think I was like I wonder what other people do.
45:55.19 Pat Um, oh my God us I speak of and.
46:02.18 tduval18 And oh shout out the Jonas Brothers they just got their star um on the hollywood walk of fame earlier this week
46:06.61 Ashley Oh I know I saw that that's so good for them.
46:10.32 Pat Yeah, all that I was actually never going to bring that up to you? Um, well ah myself and a couple friends of mine from the Baltimore music scene. Ah, we are actually doing a Jonas Brothers popcos punk ah tribute set. Um at zen west February eighteen
46:22.80 Ashley And that's so sick see that's my video not being there. How do we go.
46:27.41 tduval18 Oh you're you're definitely. You're definitely gonna have to give us like this information the album information stuff so that we're able to put that into the notes so everyone can see it and anyone who's from Baltimore listening can go because I know we all love the Jonas Brothers and if you say you don't like the Jonas Brothers you're a fucking liar.
46:27.66 Pat Fun fact about that. So I I knew I right.
46:44.18 Pat Yeah, why do you think I pick the Jones Brothers now now like the fun thing about that. Not um, for me my favorite but okay, okay.
46:47.43 tduval18 Um, because we talk about them because we all love the Jonas Brothers who's your favorite brother. That's the that's the question. Yeah.
46:50.65 Ashley That's true. Everyone loved with Junis brothers.
47:01.54 Pat This is kind of funny because ah for our um, tribute show I'm actually singing Joe Jonas's part but my favorite is actually Nick Jonas and
47:07.40 Ashley Now I know I get that everybody said justice for Kevin but you're kind of a liar if you say Kevin that's your Jonas like you're lying. It's either Kevin or sorry I'm drunk. It's either Joe or Nick.
47:08.80 tduval18 Um, ah justice for Kevin I mean Joe's my favorite.
47:23.31 tduval18 I mean I've been a Joe girl from the beginning but I'm not gonna lie now that I'm a Tiktok girlie and watching Frankie Jonas on Tiktok I don't know Frankie Jonas is really stepping up the game.
47:23.60 Pat I might.
47:28.40 Ashley Um I am the girl girl Fourth girlie.
47:34.16 Pat Um, now like ah the reason like why I picked the Jonas Brothers for our popcus punk set was like a seisman fact I mean like you know they have they have some bos you know it's just like women. They got a lot of bos well like ah not a lot people know that year three thousand is not their song and um. Actually met the guy who wrote year 3000 um, he's an english um artist James born from the yeah yeah, now a lot of people know know that you know so we face timed each other on Instagram live um like may of last year I think has been a minute. So.
47:53.83 tduval18 Yeah, from busted.
48:07.61 Pat And he follows me on Spotify. So I thought it would be cool if I like reach out to James and be like hey you know're recovering your song year 3000 and granted is the Jonas Brothers version but hey you know here it is like that's the main reason like why wanted to do the Jonas Brothers and also I mean the Jonas Brothers they got they got bopps they got bos. So.
48:21.33 Ashley How am I.
48:22.76 tduval18 Well the Jonas Brothers actually brought busted out with them. They were touring in UK or doing a show in UK and they brought them out and they did the song together. Um, yeah, it was a i.
48:29.68 Pat Oh my God I.
48:33.86 tduval18 Few years back it was right around the time Joe and Sophie got married because like she had her like bachelorette stuff one and they were showing it but that was a huge one because someone did an interview with Sophie one dime and they were like oh year 3000 she's like no bust it because you know she's english she's like busted did it first so like did this whole thing so was cute.
48:45.60 Pat Yeah, oh yeah, well also that's the reason why why busted went on stage with them was because Sophi's a huge diehard busted fan. So and that's the coolest thing ever like I saw that video I fanboyed so hard when I saw that video I was like oh my gosh cause I actually had to order the busted albums. That's another music influence actually um I actually had to order the busted albums from the Uk just because they're not available in America so I had to you know do the old school cds you know, order their albums the same with the mcby albums as well.
49:13.82 Ashley I Love this.
49:17.51 tduval18 Dont don't don't call them old school because I still have citiesds and I have a Cd player in my 2019 vehicle and it made me so excited. Yeah in my glove in my glove box. Yeah in my glove box if you open my glove box. There's a Cd player and I can I right now I'm pretty sure I have the cheeah girls soundtrack because.
49:22.20 Ashley You you really? yours has a Cd player.
49:31.75 Ashley Um, in in the tig one in the glove hucks. Yeah I fucking am but coached my gun barg that for sure.
49:35.50 tduval18 You can't yeah in my tickwan because you can't in the glove box bitch if you don't check your glove box and make sure that you don't have a Cd player and ah, but yeah, it's in the glove box and I have cheetah girls because fun fact, the cheeah girls album from the first movie.
49:42.55 Pat Um, you think I.
49:47.78 Ashley 1 I think.
49:52.90 tduval18 Is not available in any streaming services at least from I don't really listen to Spotify as much I'm more of a apple music girl but they don't have it. Are you talking about when Youtube put that damn when Youtube put that damn album on our people. Don't forget people. Don't forget.
49:57.30 Pat Um, Youtube share i.
50:00.93 Ashley I didn't under that.
50:09.40 Pat Well, actually that's like another thing too. Well first things first Tyler I'm so happy that you're an Apple person too is like I use Apple music but like ah that's another thing too. Ah, well like there are certain songs that I can't listen to because like you know there's. Ah, for example, the busted albums and everything like that like it. So like there when I hear like there's a certain album not available on streaming platforms I'm like oh come on really like come on like it's just it's it bumps me out really and also like there's specific song available for oh was that my song that was just blank.
50:37.43 tduval18 That was I was pulling up my Apple music and I was listening to you last. So there you go shout out speaker. But.
50:40.18 Pat Um, ah makes you so happy. Ah, you actually do less. That's amazing like of good. No I'm like and that really makes me happy really? but I trying to say home as the help.
50:51.70 Ashley No.
50:53.49 tduval18 But to your point about Apple music I agree with you. There are certain things that you can't get and that was something tragically. Um, there were some of the eps that Mac Miller did and 1 of the things his mom and his dad and his brother have done as honoring him is they actually this year and last year got two of his eps that were never able to be on streaming services one to Apple and Spotify. So now people can download that and get to hear those mixtapes and artists from you know. When he first started.
51:22.43 Pat Oh my God I gotta hear that oh my God Rp but like I got I gotta hear that now.
51:26.73 tduval18 Yeah, it's 1 is called faces and then the other one is dear Malcolm I love you or I love you Malcolm but they're both really good. They came out they did faces last summer and then they did dear Malcolm I love you I think in the winner cause I downloaded them both because. I'm always going to listen to Mac um, he's in my number 2 spot like every year he might be taylor 1 of these years
51:51.84 Pat Oh my god I don't think he ever will tyler let's be real I don't think ever will no one will ever be Tay for you.
51:59.97 tduval18 Like my cam comes close but yes, um, but yeah I think that's a big thing too is we have so many streaming services like back in the day you had to do lime wire or burn a Cd and get in there.
52:09.37 Ashley Lime wire was so on you know what? I miss about Cds though is a lot of them like okay they'll come up with their album and then like months down the road. They'll release that same album but they'll have like secret tracks. So it'll be like.
52:09.60 Pat Um, exactly.
52:22.80 Pat Oh my God no.
52:24.99 Ashley Bring additional songs or some shit that wasn't on the first album that that was tight I miss when Cds like albums have that.
52:29.33 tduval18 Um, 4 years four years strong to said that with their last album they they did a release I think it was at the 1 year anniversary and they did like bonus ones, but you know who always does really good. Bonus tracks is my girl Taylor that's why we have an album with like.
52:35.97 Ashley Will meet. Yeah your university.
52:42.94 Pat Yeah I got to ask you.
52:45.38 Ashley Girlfriends did that too.
52:47.49 tduval18 That's all we have a fucking album with like 13 songs ah 30 songs on it.
52:52.69 Pat Right? I got ask you all this because you mentioned limewi. Do you remember your lime wire. Ah you know your your lime wire mix. Um Cd like what was on that mix seed if you all remember.
53:02.10 Ashley I had I had a lot of different ones because I you know not having like a playlist that you can just switch on your phone I had like hella cds so I had so many different mixes I actually had 1 like specifically that was country.
53:03.80 tduval18 I um.
53:05.95 tduval18 Yeah, yeah.
53:15.30 tduval18 Yeah, yeah.
53:19.55 Pat Oh my god.
53:20.74 Ashley And then I had one that was like pop punk or whatever I honestly know I still do love Josh Turner and I can still look on my myspace like I can't log into my myspace but when you like click in your yeah url.
53:21.84 tduval18 Um, well well we loved Josh Turner me too.
53:35.74 Ashley He is my song playing like that wasn't what that's the song that I had.
53:40.70 tduval18 Let me tell you Josh Turner Luke Bryan like that they they had some ba or still do so. But oh my god this is a very big side note um my friends husband won her and him tickets to Luke Bryant the other day.
53:48.52 Ashley It like just their voice.
53:55.30 Ashley What that's stick like I on the radio. What the fuck How do you I'll get this look I you love also that you that is true I Always that is.
53:57.36 Pat Um, that's all you know I.
53:57.43 tduval18 They're going in like next month yeah Yeah I feel like I need I feel like I need to start listening to the radio just so I could like try to win shit because I never listen to the radio like.
54:09.85 Pat Energy tyler you're not 1 about time.
54:14.89 Ashley Crazy.
54:16.16 tduval18 I Literally listen to podcasts Murder podcasts specifically and music all day long like that's all I do the other day I didn't realize that I had had my because I like to wear my airpods like when I'm listening to podcasts.
54:18.97 Pat I Remember that.
54:29.44 tduval18 And I didn't realize that I had them in so long that one they died but 2 I was like my ears hurt. So I was like I need to sort like I need to listen to it on a device.
54:38.12 Pat Now like I do like listen to your podcast. Awesome Ah like ah um I do listen to him often and I will never forget. This is an old um episode youall did about I'm never goingnna forget this I Just remembered y'all were talking about pet peeves. Ah, and then the pet one. The.
54:51.66 tduval18 Um, yeah, ah.
54:54.38 Pat I couldn't stop laughing because Ashley said with her pet fees was asmr videos and I couldn't help I could stop laughing about that and the crazy thing was that after that um podcast. Um I just remember like.
54:57.86 Ashley Oh god.
55:01.75 tduval18 They're so bad.
55:09.59 Pat All of a sudden all these as and r videos start up in my Instagram I was like what the heck like why am I seeing a bunch of video of people chewing. It's oh my god no um.
55:16.91 tduval18 Let me tell you I have a new pet peeve. It does listen I have a new pet peeve that I didn't realize until now being a manager and interviewing people I cannot stand so anyone who's looking for a job take this fucking advice.
55:17.60 Ashley That's the skill stay First off your phone be listening.
55:34.23 tduval18 I cannot stand when you're asked to explain a question and you barely explain it and then say like I said what did you say you didn't say anything. It makes me nuts and it happens and another piece of advice and another no.
55:44.27 Ashley To care being an interview is a lot of stress so they're probably shut out.
55:51.56 tduval18 No another piece of advice is if you're going to write a fucking resume put your email in your actual contact phone number on it. You would be surprised how many times people either one put a very unprofessional email like tits and bits at Gmail on their fucking resume.
56:03.61 Ashley Ah, tell me that's real. Can you please tell me that's a real email that you had take the bit.
56:07.95 Pat Um, my god.
56:10.16 tduval18 That or or they put a phone number that's not in service or they don't use or it's not theirs anymore if you want a job you need to be looking in your email and checking it to see like okay someone's coming gonna reach out to you and have a professional email. That's one of the first things I learned at Fortis was they were like you need to have an email that's like just a professional one. So I got writ why I didn't get rid of I got hacked for my paramore at 92 and now I have a very professional one. That's my soapbox sorry it makes me so mad like every day.
56:31.99 Pat Right.
56:40.95 Pat Nice, Yeah, this no, it's funny and I couldn't agree more I couldn't agree more tyler if I'd say like a curtain current pet people mind in a music scene I'd say it had to be ah like when people don't promote the show because like.
56:46.47 tduval18 Ah.
57:00.35 Pat You got to realize that you know as a local artist when everybody else isn't doing their part. You know trying to bring their crowd into the venue like not only like you know I feel like exactly you know I feel I feel like you know, like not only like the venues lose money which as people don't know about like no people lose money like when they.
57:08.83 tduval18 It impacts. Everyone.
57:20.11 Pat Um, aren't meeting the expectation of like certain a number of people coming to the venues because like booking a show like you know at venues like the ones I perform at they they need to understand too that you know they lose money that way and if you can't sell tickets like. Ticket song shows like the record or anything like that. That's probably like I'm not saying that you know you shouldn't be performing but I'm just saying that maybe those type of shows aren't for you. There's different types of ways that musicians can perform they could do you know acoustic covers at you know, pubs and restaurants they could do open mic nights they could do if like that like. I guess that's like more of like you know the pet pee I'm trying to say it from the business side of things and another pet pe I just got on say this like to side note I'm saying this I don't mean to call out my promoter by saying this but it's just a huge pet pe of mine because people know that Jesse's the reason I do music I can't stand when people say mccarthy that pisses me the fuck. Well I can't.
58:09.90 Ashley Like hearty I can see that I can do I.
58:11.92 tduval18 Ah, yeah yeah I have a very like I can see why but that is ah there's I don't know I have a lot of pet peeves when it comes to the music industry so we might need to do a part 2 of like just music industry and.
58:14.34 Pat That.
58:26.75 tduval18 Maybe have an episode where you come in in and you pick an artist and we could do Jesse Mccartney if you want and we could all like do a review where you lead the episode and tell us all about Jesse and we can react I mean not a live beautiful soul was my fucking shit still have that Cd.
58:29.77 Pat And like that.
58:37.45 Pat Um.
58:39.75 Ashley Um I think I be too. Um.
58:40.61 tduval18 But um I want to be able to have you plug anything you want to plug and then we are going to do actually let's do it first. We're going to do song of the week so everyone knows what the next piece is is.
58:50.00 Pat Um, that is.
58:53.49 tduval18 And Pat since you're our guest we're putting you on the spot of what is your song of the week this week
58:59.23 Pat Ah, my song in the week I'm not going to say Jesse song so I'm like that I don't mean a ah like disappoint anyone. But no I'm not going to say Jesse's song ah my song of the week I am in totally different moods right now totally different moods. Ah I would probably have to say. Blind by sizza. That's probably my song of the week right now.
59:22.19 tduval18 Ashley Plot probably doesn't even know who that is.
59:22.81 Ashley I I know I actually do know who that is because my coworker was like oh have you heard Scissors New album was like who the fuck is that I haven't I know she's an artist I know she's an artist.
59:32.37 Pat Yeah, like fire her album's fired ah I had to say sizzor just because of um I don't like I said I don't I don't mind you know, being open about like some things but like you know.
59:45.27 Ashley Like for that. But thank you out. Probably.
59:47.90 Pat Probably because of them use for the next album I've been writing so but that's another that's T for another day but that's main reason.
59:54.33 tduval18 Yes, we'll do another one. Um, mine is going to be lemon by Tyler Posey um I think we've talked about it. We're not going to talk about the movie. It is at the end credits of the movie but that doesn't exist right now shout out to Steve because he knows we've been talking about this. But.
59:57.68 Ashley Oh I Love the time.
01:00:10.66 tduval18 Yeah tyler posezy I just I love him I really need to look to see when he's going to come back here because I'm going no matter what I love his little? Yeah no, no, no, no, we we'll talk about that in next week's episode. But Ashley what's your song.
01:00:12.97 Pat Ah, of the height.
01:00:15.99 Ashley I Don't even want to talk about him dropping out.
01:00:26.45 Ashley I'm want to go with drugs because I'm gonna go see them next week I finally get to meet Craig Owens I'm so excited. Um, but it's on their new album super cala fragileistic x sp a crisis that's a fucking.
01:00:38.81 Pat Oh my god.
01:00:42.90 tduval18 Ma'am you're gonna have to type that in our notes for it because I will fuck that up or screenshot it for our group message but that is I feel like we we hit like multiple genres here and we always love a good hit so Pat this is your time plug anything you want.
