Impact of Popes' Visit on South Sudan's Peace Process

Preparations are on high gear for the coming of Pope Francis and other religious leaders to Juba on the 3rd of February 2023. The Pope and prominent religious leaders visit to South Sudan is aimed at encouraging the country’s leaders to work towards achieving peace. In a rare gesture during a two-day spiritual retreat at the Vatican in 2019, Pope Francis kissed the feet of South Sudan leaders in Rome and asked them to live in peace. Nearly four years later the Pope is visiting to find the country still in search for peace. What impact can the pope’s visit have on the ongoing peace process in the country?
