On Tuesday, Oklahoma authorities searching for a 4 year Athena Brownfield discovered the skeletal remains of a toddler, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

According to a statement released by the organization, "At this time, the OSBI is not able to confirm that the remains are those of Athena Brownfield." The skeletal remains are going to be taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Oklahoma City so that they can be positively identified.
The man and woman who had been providing Athena Brownfield with care have been arrested and charged in connection with Brownfield's disappearance.

The remains were discovered around sixty miles south of Oklahoma City in rural Grady County, in the vicinity of a community called Rush Springs. Athena's sister was found wandering around by herself earlier this month by a postal worker in Cyril, which is located approximately 25 miles away from Rush Springs.

Ivon Adams, age 36, was taken into custody on Thursday in Arizona and is scheduled to be extradited to Oklahoma, where he is facing accusations of first-degree murder as well as child neglect, according to the state bureau.

According to the state bureau, his wife, Alysa Adams, who is 31 years old, was taken into custody by the Grady County Sheriff's Office and charged with two charges of child neglect in connection with the case. It was unclear whether either party had legal representation.

According to the state bureau, Alysia Adams was linked to Athena and her sister who is 5 years old. The bureau also stated that Alysia Adams had been taking care of the two children for at least a year.

The biological parents of the sisters are reportedly helping investigators with their inquiries and have been questioned by authorities, according to official statements. According to the state bureau, Athena's sister has been placed in the custody of the state for her own protection.
