What's Next?
Bill Thompson, the prosecutor, will have to show the magistrate judge that there is a good reason to think a crime was done and that the defendant did it.
If the judge agrees, the case will go to the 2nd District Court in Idaho. The next step would be for Kohberger to go before a district judge to be charged. Then he will be able to say how he wants to plead.
If he says he is innocent, the case will go to trial. If he admits guilt, there will be a sentencing hearing.
Thompson has not said whether or not he will ask for the death penalty for Kohberger. If he wants to do this, he must tell the court in writing no later than 60 days after Kohberger's plea.
