Between the Lines: Understanding Genre

Much of the Bible is written in the genre of “historical narrative”, written as a story about what really happened in the past, with the purpose of revealing what God did in history and pointing us towards God’s big story of redemption. In biblical narratives, we learn that God’s plan for his people and God’s plan for redemption is carried forward through and often in spite of individual people and situations.
