Germany may have finished their group stage on four points, joint with Spain, but it was Luis Enrique's side who progressed on account of their superior goal difference.
This game ebbed and flowed and at one stage, being 2-1 ahead, it was Costa Rica who were progressing into the Last 16 ahead of Spain. But Germnay rallied and evenutally won the game 4-2, but it didn't prove enough and they leave Qatar ealy, repeating their FIFA World Cup woes from 2018.
