The state government recently reversed its decision to remove a war memorial erected to commemorate David Ellerton of the Royal Australian Air Force who was killed in 1942 around 100km from Cooktown.

Peter Scott brought the story to light and elaborated on other interesting facets surrounding the history of the Second World War and Far North Queensland.
