A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 17 years to life for stabbing his fiancée in front of his children in 2020 after she asked him to buy milk.
Dayton Police Department officers responded to a stabbing on North Smithville Road on Nov. 1, 2020, said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. Amber Smith, 25, had multiple stab wounds when police arrived.
Heck said authorities found two 1- and 3-year-olds inside.
Eric Humphries became enraged after his fiancée asked him to purchase milk for their children, according to Heck. Heck says Humphries attacked his girlfriend with a kitchen knife.
Authorities discovered the knife Humphries flung on the front lawn after the fatal stabbing.
Humphries was indicted on murder and felonious assault on Nov. 10, 2020, and found guilty on Oct. 11. On Oct. 24, Heck announced Humphries' 17-year-to-life sentence.
