Peut-Être Theatre company have adapted Lemony Snicket’s The Dark into a new dance-theatre production for young visually impaired people and their friends and families with integrated audio description and touch tours for all performances.

RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby caught up with Actor Charlie Hendren who plays Laszlo in The Dark and Chris Campion, a visually impaired Access Consultant who worked on the integrated audio description and touch tours for this new dance-theatre adaptation of The Dark.

Charlie began by telling Toby about the background to Peut-Être Theatre company, a bit about the story of The Dark and how the book has been turned into this new dance-theatre production without giving too much of the story away!

Chris then talked about how he worked with Peut-Être Theatre on the integrated audio description for The Dark, how he has seen an increase in theatre companies wanting to make their productions accessible to blind and partially sighted people and what we can all do as visually impaired people to increase and maybe improve description in theatre and the arts.

Charlie ended by giving Toby an insight into what the experience will be like for people coming to see The Dark with integrated description and touch tours for all performances.
