Nationwide Discussion on 2022/23 National Budget

The Transitional National Legislative Assembly has passed a 1.4 trillion South Sudanese Pounds budget for the 2022/2023 Fiscal Year.   The budget is with a deficit of 506 billion SSP.

Budgeting under global macroeconomic constrains, caused impact of the war in Ukraine, Covid-19, climate change, Moreover, endogenous factors; such as poor road infrastructure, inter-communal conflicts, and insecurity in some parts of the country, are some of the challenges that will affect South Sudan economy during the implementation of the proposed FY 2022/2023 budget.

Two areas of focus: peace implementation and infrastructure (roads) 
Further drop in oil production from the 156,000 bpd to 150,000 bpd in 2022/2023 
The negative impact of the flood will also contribute to an economic contraction from 2.8. to 2.1 percent of growth. 

Public debt stands at 2 billion dollar and more borrowing is expected to fill the gap this year. he projected revenue for FY 2022/2023 amounts to SSP 832.8 billion, while proposed spending stands at SSP 1.3 trillion. This means a gap of SSP 560 billion will be financed through borrowing and other sources.
