How? Training!
But it's not just about the proper use of the forks. It goes much deeper than that. But since we always try to keep things short and high-level - here are a few things to consider when it comes to Forklift Training and Safety.
- Before even getting on a forklift - be sure you've been trained, or OSHA Certified to do so.
- Perform a check at the beginning of each shift to assure the forklifts you're operating are in good working order with an inspection and general maintenance check.
- Know ALL the rules and regulations of your facility.
- Be aware of the load carrying, lifting, and storage rules.
- Wear and utilize all the safety equipment determined by your facility.
- Know your surroundings at all times - such as walls, poles, doorways, pipes, racks, other forklifts, and people.
- Obey Speed Limits.
- Watch for changing floor conditions due to spills or weather.
- Keep travel areas clear of all debris.
Pay attention and keep safety top of mind; these tips will be a great start towards staying safe while operating a forklift.
