What does Roe v Wade mean for Black Women?
The fallout from the US Supreme Court ruling last month that overturned Roe vs Wade, a decision that had guaranteed safe, legal abortions in America since 1973, is being felt across the country, particularly Black women.
This week, law professor, Carliss Chatman joins Leanne to discuss the impact of Roe v Wade. Carliss explains what the reversal means from a legal perfective and describes the reversal of Roe v Wade as a tool of power that white men wield over women's bodies.
As the discussion continues, they explore the domino effect of the reversal on access to contraception and LGBTQ+ rights, as well as global implications for women's rights in other countries.
Finally, Carliss offers midwifery as a key consideration in what what we can do to negate the devastating impacts of Roe v. Wade
