Welcome to a 13-part special series for Alumni Live: The Podcast.
These are conversations with Grand Valley State University film and
video students, faculty, and alumni about the film and video major.
Ariel, I want to ask you too.
What are some of those tools?
If you had to, you know, maybe list through the, your top three filmmaking
tools, you know, whether it's pacing, whether you know, things, things
like that, what are some, some tools that you learn at Grand Valley?
That's a good question.
So some of the tools that are very necessary to have, I guess, as a filmmaker
is good communication because you can't have a crew, you can't have an effective
project without having good communication.
So it really forces you to talk to everybody, get everything aligned,
and actually go out and make a movie.
I had, there's a lot of pre-production involved in that.
So I say communication.
Another one is honestly, having fun allows you to have more freedom, I guess.
So you can have more fun on set.
Have a good attitude.
Be positive whenever problems arise, like we mentioned before, having
the positivity and the optimism to, you know, get through that without
having a big halt in production.
So communication.
Be positive.
Be confident, because if you're not confident in what you're
doing, it'll show in your work.
So the tool that you should have, definitely feel confident
in what you're doing and you're going to have a great time.
I definitely agree with all of that.
Especially the having fun part.
I like to think all the time that we really have the best
profession in the world, like every day gets to be a field trip.
We get to learn, you know, amazing things.
See crazy places.
