When Safety Fails
As mentioned on previous podcasts, and on future ones as well - we try to draw our content from real life. Today is no exception. As a matter of fact - it's going to launch a multiple-part series.
Our village is having Fiber Optic Cable buried. The village has marked properties with where they "think" cable is - but even fancy tools can miss a wire or two. I work at home and Wednesdays are usually one of my busiest days. Well, today is Wednesday - and today the guys burying Fiber Optic Cable hit our Internet Cable. That made today start off a little frustrating. But instead of getting mad, I contacted my clients to let them know of the issue and started thinking of ways to apply this to safety.
Apply the above situation to your facility. After assuring nobody has been injured and everything is under control - what can you do to best avoid a similar situation happening again? While it's fresh in your mind - get your maintenance, safety team, staff that's been affected, and management together and discuss steps for the future. Mistakes aren't fun to deal with - but they are the best teachers!
Next week on Warehouse Safety Tips we'll talk about one of the next steps in the process - double and triple-checking safety.
Until then, have a great week and STAY SAFE!
