The “Stealth Bomber” Drops A Bomb: Foxconn-Fisker Vehicle Confirmed
- Author of article, Jennifer Sensiba - ‘In a previous series of articles, I explained that Taiwan-based Foxconn (aka Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.) is going to be a serious player in the EV industry, but that you probably won’t hear much about it. Why? Because it is going to be the “stealth bomber” of manufacturers.’
- A few days ago, Fisker announced solid plans to build the PEAR, and it is working with Foxconn to build it in Ohio. This is supposed to happen in 2024, and the starting price is supposed to be below $29,900.
- Whatever the PEAR is going to actually be, Fisker and Foxconn tell us that they expect to sell a whole bunch of them. After a ramp-up period, they want to make at least 250,000 units per year, and that they have high hopes to make many more.

Tesla Giga Shanghai output will return to pre-lockdown levels by Tuesday
-An internal memo sent to Tesla employees said the automaker plans to have production levels at its Gigafactory Shanghai production facility return to pre-lockdown levels by Tuesday. The plant faced a three-week hiatus in production in April after a surge of COVID-19 cases in the city caused government officials to determine a shutdown was appropriate.
- Tesla’s daily output will return to 2,600 on Tuesday, according to the memo, which was seen by Reuters. The document said there were around 1,000 electric units produced on Monday, and the weekly output would move closer to 16,000 cars every seven days.
- Additionally, this has made a substantial impact on workforces in the area. Tesla, along with other companies in the Shanghai region, has been short on workers, as well as restricted with parts due to supply chain issues in scaled back production due to the shutdowns.

Tesla Giga Shanghai May Remain In Closed-Loop System Until Mid-June
- Tesla's Giga Shanghai factory will reportedly continue operating in a closed-loop system until mid-June, people familiar with the matter who wished to remain anonymous told Bloomberg.
- Company reportedly wants to move workers into dormitories and keep them in a form of closed loop until June 13.
- With two shifts running 24 hours a day, Tesla's Shanghai factory may be able to return to the pre-lockdown daily production of around 2,100 vehicles a day. Currently, the facility is running at about 45% of capacity and auto parts suppliers are also at around that level, a local government official said at a briefing last week. This contradicts a statement from another local government official who said in early May that Giga Shanghai production was back at over 80% of capacity.

Einride Trailer Comes With 350kWh Battery To Add 400 Miles Of Range
- The electric semi-trailer will be compatible with both Einride's electric autonomous trucks and conventional electric semi-trucks.
- The big news is that the Einride Trailer will also be compatible with conventional electric semi-trucks, which should unlock a far greater market for the product. The Einride Trailer is said to extend the range of the aforementioned tractor units by up to 650 kilometers (404 miles) on a single charge thanks to integrated 320 kWh batteries.
- The Einride Trailer is not finalized, with further design iterations expected later on. However, the company plans to have production for initial piloting ready in 2023.
-In total, 200 Class 8 BYD 8TT battery-electric day cab trucks to be deployed over the course of the coming twelve months starting in February.
- According to the press release, the BYD 8TT will be equipped with a 563 kWh battery (LFP) and offer a range of up to 200 miles. Fast charging power peaks at 185 kW (CCS1 connector).

EPA announces $500 million in funding for electric school buses
- The EPA has announced $500 million in new funding for school districts and other eligible bus operators to begin replacing the nation’s fleet of school buses with American-made zero-emission buses. This 500 big ones represents the first round of funding from the $5-billion investment authorized by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
- Portions of the rebates can also be used to install charging infrastructure for the new buses. The rebate program will select awardees through a lottery system.

Leno Tells Ford CEO He's A "Truck Guy" After Driving F-150 Lightning
- Jay Leno received a special guest recently at his garage, Ford Motor Company's CEO Jim Farley. The Blue Oval's big boss came around to show Jay the company's most recent electric vehicle, the F-150 Lightning.
- The first thing Jay wanted to know was how hard the F-150 Lightning was to sell to the bean counters at Ford and Farley admitted that it was tough convincing them that an electric full-size pickup truck was what the company needed.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX with LGES batteries sets Guinness World Record for EVs
- LG Energy Solutions’ global communications team informed Teslarati that Rainer Zietlow set a new Guinness World Record with a Volkswagen ID.4 GTX powered by LG Energy Solution batteries.
- In 2021, Zietlow won the title for the longest continuous journey with an electric vehicle in a single country. He drove through the United States in a Volkswagen ID.4. On May 18, 2022, Zietlow and his Challenge4 team set another record.
- The world-record driver drove up the dormant Uturuncu volcano in Bolivia, reaching 5,816 meters in altitude. On May 23, 2022, Zietlow and his team were awarded an official Guinness World Records certificate for the highest altitude achieved in an electric vehicle in La Paz, Bolivia.

BMW and Mini could move to 'agency' sales model in Europe, sales chief says
- "We are currently talking with our European dealers about a move to a genuine agency model," Nota told Automotive News Europe on the sidelines of the Villa d'Este Concours here.
- Autohaus magazine had reported in March that BMW planned to end its authorized dealer system in Europe from 2024 for Mini and from 2026 for the core BMW brand and instead rely on agency sales for new cars.
- Premium automakers in Europe generally offer dealer margins of 12 to 16 percent, with amounts varying according to the product line and the market. In the agency model, sales commissions are expected to be roughly halved, to a mid-single digit, but dealers will not incur inventory and promotional costs.
