Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It’s Sunday 22nd May, it’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

I think the best way to educate people about EVs depends on where you are. Here in Texas I find that EVs have unfortunately become political, and so the amount of "EV Hate" I see has only gotten worse. A friend of mine had his Model S run off the road by a pickup truck. People decide what your political affiliations might be based on all sorts of things, what car you drive, even if you are seen wearing a mask. Back in 2017, it was easier, and people were more receptive, now not so much. So now, at least for where I live, I think the best way is to invite them for a ride in my Model Y. The acceleration, and quiet smooth ride, goes a long way towards changing minds. I also have to be tactful in what arguments to use. For example, for me, climate change, deaths from fossil fuel particulate matter, expensive fossil fuel subsidies and supporting certain petrostates are all big reasons for EVs, but for some of my more right wing colleagues, I might tout the lower operating costs and ability to charge at home. I am hoping things are different in England and the rest of Europe.

Of course one way to get others, especially family members, into the EV fold is with duct tape. First catch a family member - usually with food or beverage; then restrain them (remember we started with duct tape); attache a small rechargeable (so you don't need a bunch of batteries - that would be bad for the environment and deprive EV batteries of space in the landfill) speaker to their head (duct tape is a common theme here); connect them to the EV News Daily podcast and off you go. After fourteen hundred and seventy-one odd episodes feel free to release the family member back into the wild, it's as simple as that. This method has a nifty side benefit of knowing you will not need to worry about exchanging those quirky holiday cards.
Or if for some reason you feel compelled to hoard your precious duct tape then simply let them drive your EV. It worked for my wife and I. Back in June of 2021 we were able to enjoy a weekend test drive of a Ford Mach-E. What a fascinating experience. By October, after driving an ID4 and a Model Y, we ordered a Model Y to replace our 2013 Ford Escape . . . and we are s t i l l w a i t i n g . .

The best way to educate people is to let them drive the cars themselves. I don't think there' any better way of showing how awesome the experince is

Thank you for your podcast. The best way is to be respectful that many people don't like their beliefs questioned. Lots of us have grown up with gas cars and don't want to be TOLD what we're driving next. But like myeslf, when everyone finds out at their own pace, there's no reason to have an issue with EVs.

The benefits of driving electric cars are clear. We need to start and end with the benefits. Anything else is just noise for most people. They need to know the benefit to their life or bank balance.

OUt of date perceptions are something which we really must challenge. EVs go farther, and cost less money, that I think many fellow americans realise. Because researching a car is not their priority people either think the technology hasn't moved on since the last EV they saw, like a Leaf, or head about Tesla selling hundred grand cars.

Charging and range are surely the biggest issues? People think they need a car which does more miles than they really need. And most people I talk to are intimidated by the electrical work required at their house.

I think we need to tell people there's more than just Tesla. Elon Musk this week has gone on a total meltdown on Twitter and that means all the news articles are about what he said. But whenever that happens, they always mention Tesla and electric cars, which further reinforces them as the only name people hear about with EVs. Dealers and established car makers should do more to push EVs.
