Daily Dose @ 5: Malaysia surpasses 3,000 COVID-19 cases, N.Korea orders lockdown after confirming first COVID-19 outbreak

AMONG the headlines for Thursday, May 12, 2022, Malaysia’s daily COVID-19 infections continued to rise, as a total of 3,321 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said about 1,416 people recovered from the disease yesterday.
Meanwhile, another eight COVID-related deaths were recorded, including three classified as brought-in-dead.
Also, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un declares a 'serious emergency', ordering ‘strict lockdowns’ across the country, as it reported its first Covid-19 cases earlier today.
According to officials, samples taken from patients who were down with fever in Pyongyang showed a sub-variant of the omicron virus, also known as BA.2.
