Ichabod is not a name associated with newborns; in fact, it is typically only associated with one of the characters in Washington Irving’s, “The Headless Horseman.” The name literally means “inglorious” and actually was used for a newborn in an ancient time that saw a great disrespect for the ways of God. This disrespect was most visibly witnessed by Israel’s treatment of the Ark of the Covenant by seeking to transform it into nothing more than a good luck charm. There are many lessons modern Christians can learn from these ancient Jews.
