Connect Voices Round up 13 April 2022

Season 1, Episode 1200,   Apr 13, 2022, 08:00 AM

Max Conway, RNIB's National Involvement Coordinator, shares the latest opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to get involved in.

Opportunities highlighted this week included:

Get behind the RNIB’s Legal Rights Service campaign which is Highlighting and challenging an unfair ruling around people’s benefits just because they are a Braille reader.  Many claimants of Universal Credit (UC) and Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) are being unjustly penalised financially, purely because they are able to read braille. This is because current legislation prevents braille-readers from satisfying a key activity in the ‘Work Capability Assessment’. The result of this is that they are missing out on as much as £354 per month in benefit, even though the ability to read braille makes no difference at all to their employability.

Take part in the next Retina UK audience insight survey and make your voice heard. Are you living with inherited sight loss? Then why not make your voice heard through the next Retina UK audience insight survey which is open to anyone living with an  inherited sight loss or is the parent/carer of someone who has the condition.

Are you a fan of the Olympics and it's cultural elements?
Well if so then why not help the RNIB improve the accessibility and enjoyability of the Olympic Games by joining a RNIB virtual focus group run by our Media and Broadcast Team.
