Castle Park on road leading to the castle, beside Loughnameane Park. Built in 1269 by Robert de Ufford. Captured by Aodh O'Connor in 1272. Eight years later retaken by the English. Regained in 1340 by the O'Conor's who mostly held it until 1569 when seized by Sir Henry Sidney. Retaken in 1641 by Parliamentarians until Confederates captured it in 1645 and was partially blown up by Cromwellians in 1652. Burned in 1690. Well worth a visit.
