Army to punish soldiers involved in human rights abuses in Abegi area of Yei County

The Army says soldiers involved in the harassment, beating, and looting of civilian properties in Abegi area of Yei County on Monday, will be held accountable for their actions if found guilty.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, SSPDF director of civil-military relations Lt. Col. Micheal Machar says the army has a constitutional obligation to protect civilians and their properties. He added that misconduct within the army shall never be condoned.
On Tuesday, a member of parliament in the National Legislative Assembly, Peter Lomude Francis, called for the removal of all armed forces from areas close to civilians to minimize such incidents.
