A Call to the RNIB Helpline Could Change Your Life!

Season 1, Episode 1111,   Feb 04, 2022, 12:19 PM

Calling the RNIB Helpline on 0303 123 9999 could open the door to a wide range of help and support around anything related to sight loss from general advice to making contact with some of the specialist RNIB Teams such as the Welfare Rights Team, the Tech for Life Team or even to talk with a Sight Loss Counsellor which could even help to change your life around too.

Perm (Permjit) Bhachu’s life has certainly been turned around after calling the RNIB Helpline back in 2018 when she was going through a very tricky time due to the deterioration of her vision.

Connect Radio’s Toby Davey caught up with Perm and began by asking her what was happening in her life that lead up to that first call to the RNIB Helpline back in 2018.

Perm told Toby that after making that first call to the Helpline she was put in touch with the Welfare Rights Team to help with financial matters, including sorting out benefit claims such as filling in her PIP form. Perm was also supported by one of the RNIB’s Sight Loss Counsellors who helped with many things she was going through at the time including some mental health issues and the counselling is an on going support for Perm too.

Through the support from the Sight Loss Counsellor, Perm joined one of the Living Well With Sight Loss courses which helped so much being able to talk with other visually impaired people who were going through similar issues that she had been going through at the time relating to her sight loss.

Through the confidence gained by taking part in the Sight Loss course Perm has made contact with local sight loss organisations in her home area such as the Black Country Sight Loss Council and has even got into Photography as a visually impaired person.

Perm ends by giving her advice to others who might be going through a similar situation to the one she went through in 2018 to encourage them to pick up the phone and make that call to the RNIB Helpline.

If you or someone you know is going through a tricky time in their life due to sight loss in any form at all the RNIB Helpline is here  to help on 0303 123 9999 and there is lots of information and advice too on the RNIB website - https://www.rnib.org.uk
