The importance of education for any country can never be over emphasized. However, realizing the accrued benefits comes with its own challenges. In South Sudan, teacher retention has been among the most difficult goals to achieve due to various reasons. The good news though, is that the European Union has released funds through an OUTREACH program aimed at benefiting at least 7,450 primary school teachers in hard-to-reach areas.
This fund is meant for teachers’ monthly cash incentives to cover a period of 24 Months. This fund will be implemented by UNICEF in collaboration with National and State Ministries of General Education and Instruction (MOGEI).
On the Nationwide program this evening, we featured George Mogga, Director General Planning, National Ministry of General Education and Instruction and John Tileyi Yuggu, education specialist, UNICEF South Sudan who explained how the monthly teacher incentive payments will be implemented.
