FULL STATEMENT – South Sudan Justice Minister before UN Human Rights Council

"The government of South Sudan is ready and willing to improve the general condition of human rights that has been brought about by war."
Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Justice Reuben Madol Arol, made the comments at a UN Human Rights periodic review meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
Several member states of the UN Human Right Council recommended the need to abolish death penalty, establish all transitional justice mechanisms and the full implementation of the Revitalized Peace agreement.
Justice Arol presented a report on the human rights situation in the country, highlighting progress in areas such as the establishment of mobile courts and a special court to handle cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
