VOLKSWAGEN PASSENGER CARS AGAIN SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDS EUROPEAN CO2 FLEET TARGETS FOR 2021

Based on preliminary figures, Volkswagen Passenger Cars has exceeded the ambitious European CO2 fleet targets for 2021 and produced around 5.5 million grams fewer CO2 than required by law.

The passenger car fleet of new vehicles in the European Union achieved average CO2 emissions of 113 g/km – the legal CO2 target for the brand was 119 g/km.

Last year, Volkswagen delivered more electric vehicles worldwide than ever before, handing over more than 369,000 electric cars (+73 percent versus 2020), including approximately 106,000 PHEVs (+33 percent) and 263,000 all-electric vehicles (+97 percent) to customers.

The Emden and Chattanooga (USA) plants will start production of the ID.4 this year. In the current fiscal year,   will also expand its offerings based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB): This way, the all-electric models ID.503, ID.5 GTX04 and ID.BUZZ05 will gradually be launched in international markets.


VW GROUP SAYS IT MET EU CO2 GOAL FOR 2021 ON HIGHER EV SALES

The group, which includes the VW, Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat brands, achieved average CO2 emissions of 118.5 grams per km in 2021 for its new passenger car fleet in the EU, the automaker said in a statement on Monday.

Group sales of electrified vehicles, including full-electric cars and hybrids, rose 64 percent to 472,300 in Europe last year, the automaker said.


VOLKSWAGEN GROUP DRIVES FORWARD DECARBONIZATION AND OVERFULFILS THE EU’S CO2 FLEET TARGET

In 2020, the Volkswagen Group had achieved average CO2 emissions of 99.9 g/km for its fleet in the EU including the United Kingdom, Norway and Iceland – a figure that was calculated based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The legal basis since 2021 has been the Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). The underlying test cycle in this procedure is more realistic than in the NEDC, with a higher top speed being driven, for example. This generally gives higher CO2 emissions, which is why the CO2 fleet targets have also been switched over to the WLTP.

Audi will introduce the upgraded e-tron and new versions of the Porsche Taycan and Taycan Sport Turismo will be available for the first time. The Group aims to become the leading provider of electric vehicles worldwide by 2025. In the period from 2022 to 2026, around €52 billion of investments are therefore planned in e-mobility and another amount of around €8 billion in the hybridization of the model portfolio.


BJØRN NYLAND TESTS LFP MODEL 3 WITH 60 KWH PACK

Bjørn Nyland recently had an opportunity to check - for the very first time - the brand new Made-in-China Tesla Model 3 RWD (former Standard Range Plus/SR+) with about a60 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) lithium-ion battery.

the ScanMyTesla app reveals a 60.6 kWh battery, which is 5.3 kWh or 9.5% more than previously (55.3 kWh).

The buffer is 2.7 kWh - 0.2 kWh or 8% more than previously (2.5 kWh), which means that the usable battery capacity is 57.9 kWh - 5.1 kWh or 9.7% more than previously (52.8 kWh)


2023 AUDI Q6 E-TRON SPIED SHOWING CITROEN-STYLE DUAL HEADLIGHTS

The Audi Q6 e-tron is set to premiere in early 2022 as a fully electric SUV based on the PPE platform.

Camouflaged prototypes of the model have been spied several times since last year, but the latest one is the first to wear the production-spec headlights and taillights as we get closer to the official debut.

The Audi Q6 e-tron will have a similar size to the ICE-powered Q5, filling the gap between the more affordable Q4 e-tron and the – soon to be facelifted – flagship e-tron SUV.

the Q6 will be sharing the PPE architecture with the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron sedan, and the new generation Porsche Macan EV.


The PPE platform is an evolution of the J1 platform found under the e-tron GT four-door, as well as the Porsche Taycan. That means it’ll have an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling super-fast DC charging at a rate of up to 350kW.

Audi also says the platform will allow the EV’s battery pack to charge from five to 80 per cent capacity in around 25 minutes. A shorter charge using the fastest possible DC rapid charger can also add 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

It remains to be seen what size and type of battery pack Audi will use in the Q6 e-tron, but the firm says the PPE platform is capable of covering more than 700km (around 430 miles) when powering the more aerodynamic A6 e-tron concept.


TESLA CYBERTRUCK VIDEO REVEALS AT LEAST ONE CYBERTRUCK EXISTS

In a four-minute clip posted by several different YouTube accounts, a guy in a high-vis vest does a walkaround of the truck while commenting on the details he could see, which don't amount to much. The headlights keep coming on, possibly because of proximity sensors or cameras, or maybe because someone from Tesla is just offscreen turning them on.

There are cables of some sort running laterally across the floor of the bed, seemingly held in place with sandbags. What are they for? Why the sandbags?

All we do know is that Tesla parked a Cybertruck by itself where two dudes could examine it at their leisure and then post the resulting video online without fear of reprisal—garnering attention and stoking the idea that an important product is nearing production—a few days ahead of an earnings call.


TESLA, BYD RAISE CHINA PRICES ON EV SUBSIDY CUTS AND MATERIAL COSTS

BYD and Tesla are raising prices in China, where government subsidies for such new-energy vehicles were reduced in January.

Tesla raised prices Dec. 31 on its flagship Model 3 and Model Y, Chinese media report. The Model 3 now starts at slightly over 265,000 yuan, an increase of 10,000 yuan, while the Model Y begins at about 302,000 yuan, a jump of 21,000 yuan. The hikes total 4%-8%.

Electric vehicle startup Xpeng Motors also raised prices in January. FAW-Volkswagen Automobile, a joint venture of the German group, plans to introduce higher prices for some of its flagship ID series models at the end of February.

Beijing lowered the incentives for passenger cars by 30% in January as it looks to phase out the subsidies by the end of 2022.


BMW IX DRIVEN FAST ON THE AUTOBAHN IN RANGE TEST, HITS UP TO 124 MPH

YouTuber Automann-TV aimed to solve this puzzle by taking the BMW iX 50 on the Autobahn where he drove it at high speeds. On the German highway’s unrestricted sections, he pushed it to the electronically governed 124 mph (200 km/h). Wherever possible, he programmed the active cruise control at 100 mph (160 km/h).

The large electric SUV faced rain and also a wind coming from the front. These undoubtedly had a significant impact on range, but that goes with the territory when you’re testing an EV in real-life conditions. We should mention the trip started with a battery level of about 96% and ended at a 19% state of charge (SOC). Average consumption stood at 34 kWh / 100 kilometers.

At the end of the test, the BMW iX had done about 225 kilometers (140 miles). Average speed? Approximately 120 km/h (75 mph). With 19% of juice left, he could’ve covered an additional 75 kilometers (47 miles)

With the Neue Klasse platform coming in 2025, BMW will take efficiency to the next level
