Churchill addressed a joint session of Canadian parliament 30 December 1941.

In 1929, in Montreal, Churchill observed: “How splendid is our common inheritance. It was with a thrill that, after crossing for several days the great wastes of the Atlantic, I landed in a new world, in a new hemisphere, and found myself at home.”

Winston Churchill had a deep affection for Canada, which he referred to as "the linchpin of the English-speaking peoples." The City of Toronto played a special role in this Canadian connection. Churchill first visited Canada in the winter of 1900/1901.
