Our next podcast guest is Simon Tarrant, Director, Commercial Engine Lubricants, Large Engines, at the specialty chemical provider, Lubrizol.

In conversation with Mark Williams, Simon offers his insights on shipping’s decarbonisation challenges and also explains Lubrizol’s key role in developing additives used in marine lubricants, not only for today’s range of bunker fuel grades but also for the marine fuels of the future. As Simon highlights, given the 3-5-year timeline required to develop and test additive systems and then bring them to market, work on developing products for fuels that are yet to be supplied commercially and at scale must begin now.

Simon has been Business Director of Engine Lubricants for Large Engines (Marine, Power Generation and Railroad) at Lubrizol since 2017. He is responsible for the long-term vision, market development strategies, advocacy and implementation of region-specific business plans.

He joined Lubrizol in 2003 in Product Management in the  Driveline area of the Transportation business, spending three  years in Asia supporting the Regional Driveline business  management, returning to Europe in 2010 leading the EMEA Driveline team, with a further three years as Regional
Business Director for Chemtool, EMEA, integrating the acquisition. He also served as a Lubrizol UK Ethics leader between 2016-2020.

Prior to Lubrizol, Simon held a variety of Business and Marketing management roles in both the manufacturing and services sector, including four years in Saudi Arabia.

Simon is a Chartered Marketer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), holding postgraduate qualifications in Marketing (DipM) and Supply Management (BPICS).
