In this week’s ship.energy podcast, Harold Malone, Principal of Sea/Switch Partners and a seasoned shipping finance and operational leader, discusses whether ship owners need to change their traditional approach to financing ships as the industry decarbonises. Will they, for example have to become more ‘corporate’ in their operations?

In conversation with Mark Williams, Harold talks about the Marine Money Decarbonisation Index, established by Sea/Switch Partners and Marine Money and Breakwave Advisors. The Index is used as a benchmark for the  ETFMG Breakwave Sea Decarbonization Tech Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), a fund listed on the NYSE on 20 September this year.

Harold is currently Principal of Sea/Swtich Partners, with a mission is to bring together the technology innovators, capital providers, shipowners, cargo movers, regulators and other parties needed to drive maritime decarbonisation through thought leadership and delivering practical solutions to complex challenges.

Previously, he was Head of Transportation at Invesco Private Capital’s WL Ross Division for four years. He has also acted as Chief Strategic Officer for Navig8 Group and has two stints at Jefferies totalling 12 years, as well as a seven year term at RBC Capital Markets.

He has a BSc with a concentration in finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude.
