@EVNewsDaily I hope I'm not too late for question of the week! I've been waiting since January for our promised full ev 3.5t van. And now our depot should be getting some in the next few weeks! These were shown off by dpd at fully charged and I can't wait!

Like you, I have been waiting for the Model Y since the reveal of the Model 3 in 2016 so five years so far!

I put  a deposit on a Hyundai Ioniq 5 on the first day of reservations.  Not expecting to take delivery until December!  And if I have to wait a couple more months, I am fine with it.

But, I don’t NEED a new car now.  My wife and I own 3 cars, and the Ioniq will replace her Volt (and she gets my Bolt).  BUT, if I NEEDED a car now, like if one of our cars died, and we needed a daily driver, then obviously I wouldn’t want to wait at all.  This is why used car prices have risen so much with the chip shortage.

I ordered immediately after seeing the concept Mini Electric at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2018 and finally took delivery in March 2020, about 3 days before lockdown 1.0

No regrets, I usually pre-order cars and wait for exactly what I want. I started the habit in about 1972 when I pre-ordered a Triumph Dolomite Sprint. Followed by Audi TT (1 year), Audi TT with DSG (about 6 months), VW Eos with DSG (about 3 months), Mini Countryman (to match as close as possible, the Rally version), Renault Twizy (I had the first customer car in the country - 6 months or so after the Geneva Motor Show release) BMW i3 (about 6 months), Mini Countryman PHEV (4 months or so) and then the Mini Electric!

It's been three and a half years, and I'm still waiting, baby.. The current crop of cars I see on all of the YouTube videos is really nice, but the Hyundai and the Kia aren't available in the US yet, the standard range+ Model Y was last seen on a milk carton, the F150 isn't a thing I can buy, nor is the Cybertruck. I have waited 3.5 years, I may have wait longer, I'm afraid. I just spent the weekend testing a Model 3, and I highly recommend that anyone considering the car do that before buying one. After about 8 hours of driving it, my partner and I have realized that it's not the car for us. (Too low, seats hurt her back, doesn't really fit our life very well.)

Waited for around a month, 1,5 month for my new EVs. Realistically 2 months are acceptable wait time. For a nerd like me, that wants to get his next gadget ASAP... A week is too long. 🙂 

Model 3 Long range number 1. Ordered on 2019 February 22, picked on March 27. A bit more than a month. 

Probably longest month in my life, was so excited on getting my first EV. 

Model 3 Long range number 2, refresh. Ordered 2020 November 5th, picked 2020 December 23.

1,5 month wait. 

This was just a temp car while I was waiting for Model Y. 

Audi Q4 50 Quattro ordered 2021 April 27 picked, 2021 June 30.

Again a month of waiting. So if I would have waited for my original spec Q4, it would arrive in December, if I would have removed memory seats and 360 cameras - September.

Interesting question as I just sold my Zoe ze40, but don’t worry I’m still a listener. I waited 4 long frustrating months for my first EV back in 2018 cursing every time I had to fill my fiesta with petrol. It was a long wait but I never considered cancelling because I really wanted the Zoe after my first test drive.

With my new car I waited a week or so for one very specific reason I just brought one of these Iimited edition Zoe Zoe50 rivieras!

Orderd a Polstat 2 16 of April and delivery just got booked for the 11 of October. Looong wait. Ty for a good and informative podcast. Ceep up the good work.

I made the decision months ago to purchase a plug-in car, however in the US the ZEV states are getting priority to meet their enhanced environmental goals. This means that, between all the different brands that offer an EV, we are getting very low supply and the demand is HUGE - leading to extra high prices on the cars we do get.

I'll be waiting until next year at least for the inflated prices to normalize and inventory to increase. In the meantime, I will continue drooling over all of the lovely EVs out there.

Hello! Jacob from New Jersey here. I was able to get my Mach-E when it was en route to a dealer, so only had to wait a few weeks. I do have an R1S reserved in the hopes it’s ready by the time I can replace my last ICE car. Love the podcast!

Love the podcast. When I placed my Model 3 order 2 weeks ago it said expected delivery was February (5 months away). Although the expected delivery date within my Tesla account says 8-11 weeks. Really hoping that the 5 month estimate was just Tesla marketing trying to get me to buy a higher trim level and that the 8-11 weeks is correct. 

But to answer your question, I would easily wait 6 months for the right vehicle.

Since March 2016 I have been waiting for my perfect EV; a Tesla model Y. In the mean time I am already on my second “temporary” EV. First the Mercedes BClass and now the MG ZS. Expect to be at least another 18 to 24 months before I go ahead with a UK spec model Y.

Chip shortage has its upsides. I realized there are plenty of used 100 000€ cars on the market nowadays, with 30% off! So I perusing mobile.de for that perfect, well equipped e-tron 55 Sportback import. Can't find them in Finland yet and prices are high, but achievable. 

Oh! And the actual answer is: "with import, it's 2-4weeks. That I can bear. Not 6-12 months." .

FIL MAGNOLI

Having recently (at the time) moved from Canada to Australia, I reserved my Telsa Model 3 when it was announced (March 2016) and knowing that it was going to take some time, I purchased a Lexus IS250 to get me by until it arrived down under. My expected wait time was, in my opinion, going to take at least 3 years to reach Aussie shore, and then be shipped out to west coast where there was barely any Teslas at all. I took delivery 4 years after my reservation was made with Tesla - May 2020 - Tesla Model 3 Performance, little, but growing Fast DC charging infrastructure at the time, but would wait all over again if I had to.

My family and I went to test drive a Tesla model y long range on August 7th. As you can see from the attached image we were sold. Immediately after we test drove an id4 and there was no comparison. Our reservation date originally said December but later said December 10th to January 10th and now has disappeared completely. I can see waiting 4 to 5 months for a brand new version,but the model y has been in production for over a year now so this wait is a little crazy. Love the show.

Hello Edward Ragasa here from Stockton California and I didn’t have to wait at all before getting my EV. I bought my 2022 Kia Niro EV EX last month. They had 2 on the lot not even unwrapped yet. So new it was factory built in July. The 2022’s are not even on Kia’s website. Keep up the great work and love the show.

I waited 1 year.  I watched the Sept 4th, 2019 World Premier of the Taycan at 6am (Pacific Time).

I saw a physical car (Taycan Turbo) at my local dealership in San Jose late October and took a test drive and put down a $1000 refundable deposit. 

I was #329 in the queue for an allocation assignment by that dealership and they told me they did not know if I could get one in 2020.

By Feb 2020 I was #210 for Taycan 4S's from that dealership and I was looking for other dealerships, found one a few hundred miles away with a June 2020 allocation available, I put a 2nd deposit down with them. When that order locked I asked for a refund of my first deposit as though I would have preferred dealing with my local dealership, I wanted the car. The car was ordered to my exact spec with over 30 options selected. Built in August and delivered to the USA in October. Prepped by Porsche Experience Center for my delivery Nov 11, 2020.

Timing worked well and I had my Chevy Bolt EV to tide me over.

That being said I see in a Taycan forum that UK folks can order a custom Taycan and get in just a ~3 months prior to the chip shortage.

I wouldn’t wait any time, vehicle purchases are clearly a huge financial commitment, I have to kind of amp myself up in the moment to make the purchase, in fact I’d had a beer before I went and bought my Niro EV 🙄

I would certainly talk myself out of the purchase if I had a long wait, I like to drive to a dealer and have the whole ordeal done in one day.

Great show as always. With my Hyundia Kona Electric Premium SE I placed the order in September 2018 and took delivery in April 2019

I didn't mind the wait for I knew I was getting a very good car which even now just amazes me. If I was to buy another EV (Which I won't be!) I wouldn't mind the wait say Tesla Model Y for example. A EV worth waiting for.

I would need to be able to test drive the vehicle before any purchase decisions are made, after that I would expect to take delivery the same day or no later than a day or two. 

If I special ordered the vehicle with features not found on the lot, I would wait a week. 

Waiting months to years is asking too much from a customer service perspective.
