Daily Dose @ 5: Malaysia’s new COVID-19 cases top 20,000 again, Researchers seek one vaccine against many variants

AMONG the headlines for Tuesday, August 24, 2021, new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia climbed back up to 20,837 today, from 17,672 yesterday, according to a tweet by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Selangor recorded the highest number of infections today at 4,645, followed by Sabah (3,376) and Penang (2,054).
Other states that reported new cases in four digits included Kedah (1,772), Johor (1,743), Sarawak (1,543), Kelantan (1,422), Kuala Lumpur (1,284) and Perak (1,242).
Also, two separate research teams last week reported on laboratory tests of monoclonal antibodies that appear to protect against a broad range of COVID-19 virus variants.
According to the team, the findings from these studies could be a step toward developing new antibodies that would be effective against many variants of the coronavirus.
