Roundtable: The Reconstituted Transitional National Legislature; priorities and challenges

Episode 1698,   Aug 07, 2021, 08:43 AM

The Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan demands reconstitution of the Transitional National Legislature to include the members of political parties to Agreement. According to the agreement, the RTNL is to cosnsit of 550 members of the TNLA and 100 members of Council of States.
On 2nd August 2021 some members representing four of the five political parties’ signatories to the R-ARCSS took the oath of office at a ceremony administered by Chief Justice Chan Reec. However, not all the designated numbers of 550 and 100 members of the TNL were swore in.
The RTNL is unprecedented Transitional National legislature with the first ever female Speaker, substantial youth, and gender representation and with 650 appointed legislators from the political parties brought together by the R-ARCSS.
Having been swore in, it is now time for the legislators to embark on their work; herald the implementation of the Peace agreement, make laws that will sail the troubled country through transition that ends with free and fair elections,
What are then the priorities and challenges that await the just reconstituted TNL?
