No visit to Ireland is complete without a proper traditional Irish music session. Only an idiot would call it diddley-i music for a true session is where women swoon, spirits soar and Gods are created in a single night. As such, a visit to this pub is a trip to "Mecca' for fans of the real thing. This legendary Gweedore pub is regarded by many as where the actual Irish session as we know it, started. Many great trad musicians have played in its venerated chamber. Not just trad music, the formidable local band In Their Thousands play regular rock gigs here as well.
In the audio piece recorded from our Rambling House series at Dinny White Harra McLaughlin's Dinny tells Seoirse about the origins of the first proper Irish trad music session in Ireland and yes, it was none other than at Huidà Beags pub in 1970's Gweedore - and two weeks was the duration of that first session no less!
