Model S goes to Plaid speed this week

Plaid+ is canceled. No need, as Plaid is just so good.

 

"Previously, Tesla and Musk promised fans the tri-motor, Plaid Plus version of their new Model S would give drivers 1,100 horsepower, 520 miles of range on a fully charged battery, and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds." says CNBC: "In March, Tesla raised the price of the Model S Plaid Plus by $10,000 bringing it to about $150,000. The option to order the Model S Plaid Plus variant was removed from Tesla’s website around the last week of May, according to a CNET report. The remaining high-end version of the Model S Plaid will cost around $119,900 and feature a 390-mile range battery, with 1,020 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in two seconds, among other features."

 

The unveiling is 10th June. Will there be a surprise? Some people speculate because the Roadster 2 has been extended to 11th June at the Petersen Museum, that's the surprise. 

 

"It’s available to order in the UK now for £110,980, but while Musk has reiterated that first deliveries will take place later this month, British buyers will have to wait until the end of 2022 for their cars according to Tesla’s UK configurator." said Autoexpress: "The Plaid+ variant would have lined up as a long-range version of the car, with the same performance specs, but with up to 520 miles of running on a full battery. It was priced at £139,980. Like most car manufacturers, Tesla is being affected by the global semiconductor shortage. In an earnings call on 26 April, Musk called the shortage “a huge problem.” "

 

Do we need Plaid+? Plaid will make the most of V3 Superchargers at 250kW.

 

 

 

"The Tesla Model 3 has become the most popular battery electric car on British roads after a surge in sales, as the race to dominate the car industry’s new era heats up." according to The Guardian: "The number of Model 3s on British roads overtook Nissan’s Leaf models during the first four months of 2021, according to calculations by Matthias Schmidt, an independent electric car analyst. There are now 39,900 Model 3s in the UK, compared with 38,900 Leafs, many of which are built at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland."

The most powerful variant is the ENYAQ SPORTLINE iV 80x. Thanks to a second electric motor on the front axle, it transmits power to the road via all-wheel drive. The two motors have a combined output of 195 kW.  The 80x is mainly driven by a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PSM) on the rear axle, which delivers an output of 150 kW.  An asynchronous motor, designed with a pulse inverter and a single-speed gearbox in a coaxial arrangement, is used at the front. This has an output of 80 kW.  Asynchronous motors are characterised by a short-term overload capability and low drag losses. They are thus perfect for short-term boosts. The ENYAQ SPORTLINE iV 80x is powered by a 82 kWh battery and can cover more than 500 km*** in the WLTP cycle. Its top speed is 160 km/h.

 

 

" Get Report revealed that "Gemini" is the code name for a new high-end electric vehicle lineup to be launched next year, burying speculation that the China-based EV maker was looking to release a less-expensive mass-entry-level electric car." says The Street: "NIO supplier JAC Group last month invited bids for construction of a NIO production line codenamed “Gemini” that would produce 60,000 units a year, sparking speculation that it would be a new entry-level NIO model. NIO-watchers got it half right. A NIO spokesperson confirmed on Monday that the “Gemini” project will involve building NIO-branded luxury cars that will compete with the likes of Tesla  (TSLA) - Get Report, Audi, BMW  (BMW)  and others - not lower-priced models."

 

 

BYD sent the first 100 units of the Tang EV to Norway, which is BYD’s most expensive passenger BEV. This is a big SUV that seats 7 persons and has AWD (All-Wheel Drive).

The first shipment of 100 pure-electric BYD Tang all-wheel-drive SUVs sets sail today, Monday 7th June, from the Port of Shanghai, scheduled to arrive at dealerships in Norway towards the end of summer. 

Chief among its new technological features is the new, game-changing and space-saving Blade Battery, boasting performance figures of 0-100 km/h in just 4.6-seconds from its 86.4 kWh battery capacity, and a class-leading single-charge range of over 500km (NEDC). While charging to between 30% and 80% of capacity is attained in a remarkably brief 30-minute

The starting price of the BYD Tang EV in Norway is 599.900 NOK (59.065 euros).

 

 

"Norway appears to be becoming a key European test market for Chinese OEMs planning on a further European market roll-out.

" It says it has plans to construct a new battery cell manufacturing facility near the Tesla Gigafactory in Shanghai that will have an annual production capacity of 80 GWh — enough to power 800,000 electric cars." says CleanTechnica: "A senior CATL official tells Reuters the company wants to expand its relationship with Tesla and supply half of the batteries Tesla uses in its electric vehicles and Powerwall energy storage devices worldwide. CATL began supplying batteries to Tesla for its Chinese made Model 3 last year. CATL currently produces 69.1 GWh of batteries and has another 77.5 GWh of capacity under construction."

 

 

"We've known for almost a year that Audi has been working on a secret all-electric project internally called Project Artemis. The production car, due in 2024, will be no ordinary Audi. Now being called Landjet by company officials, this new model aims to outdo Tesla in every way imaginable, from battery tech and range to autonomous driving capabilities. In short, Audi wants to create the new gold standard of all-electric and self-driving vehicles." says CarBuzz: "The German automaker has just announced the project has now entered a new phase. Development of the new high-tech flagship has been moved entirely in-house instead of operating as sort of a standalone division. Project Artemis, or Learjet, is widely expected to morph into the Audi A9 e-tron once it goes on sale. In addition to the Tesla Model S Plaid, its other main target will be the just-revealed Mercedes-Benz EQS."
